i have an apex'i AVCR laying around. only used for 4 months. i only took it off, because the hose i was using was too big for the nipple(s), and so i was over boosting. i never knew what the problem was, until i got a manual bc, with smaller hoses.
i don't know if your familiar with the AVCR, but its features are basically endless.
let me know if your interested.

if you really want I can make you a manual one for liek $25 or so, won't be anodized in any pretty colours unless you like brass.

I remember you mentioning making my own dual stage. I'd be down for that if you really would do it. I'd much appreciate it. To be quite honest I trust the manual setup more. Plus then I could mount one of those fuckin aircraft style toggle switches inside the cockpit. :D Always wanted to be able to say, dont EVER push the red fuckin button. If you can do it, go for it Kolat and I'd be more than willing to pay 25 bucks for it.

dual stage with electronic switch is pretty simple, just take 2 boost controllers and a vacuum solenoid and plumb them in in the right order and it's cake. Not sure on purchasing a solenoid though I've always just used a stock mitsu one.

Gimme a min and I'll draw up what the plumbing would look like.

k, the soleneoid is where I got lost cuz I have no idea where to get one. Will those like 9 dollar mbc's off ebay work? If you know where to get that solenoid, lemme know.

solenoid switches which hole the airflow goes thru, that diagram would be for using a 3 port solenoid, if you used a 2 port solenoid then you'd just have to put the solenoid after the high boost controller and when the solenoid was closed you'd have high boost and when it's open you'd have low boost because the air would go thru the low boost controller instead of having to build up pressure to get past the high boost one.

still need to know where to get that solenoid.

you can go to pull and save and yank out any type of emissions related solinoids for cheap! I did that once, except it burnt up after a couple of weeks b/c of the way i had it wired up.
You can also build a ball and spring type BC from Lowes for about $12. I used to go to BrownBearing to get the little stainless steal BBs.

Its been my experience that you dont wanna trust a motor, turbo, or anything expensive to a $12 dollar part that you make yourself. Especially when you can get on ebay and get one of the voodoo controllers for fairly cheap. I ran a turboxs mbc in my talon and loved it. Maybe im just to excentric and dont wanna risk blowing shit up with a homemade mbc. Look around on dsmtuners.com, ebay, places like that and you can pick up a brand new or used brandname mbc for not alot of cash. I got my high performance turboxs mbc with little use for $30. Also look up hallman, very nice piece. Just my .02 cents.

anyone ever crack open a voodoo MBC? The technology isn't rocket science. Its a ball bearing and a spring used to hold back the desired boost signal, essentially all the same materials and design concept. Yes, some are a bleeder type like the turboxs, but are usually priced much higher than the Ebay style MBC. Theoreticlly, an electronic boost controler would have a higher probablility of failing or working improperly since it consist of more parts, not to mention its 12v powered, and we all know they cost much more than MBC technology. My point is price has no relevance to reliability.

I totally agree with Meng on this. Ive always been kinda sketchy on the EBC's. I think Im gonna order two ebay MBC's and go on a hunt for a solenoid. If anyone has any vaccuum solenoids lyin around, lemme know.

Yeah, MBC's are simple to make and stuff.

yeah, ninja_bear, the AVCR is prob too expensive (compared to an ebay MBC), so i won't even say what the price is, unless you really want to know :D

Look on http://www.mcmaster.com/ for solinoid valves, i once found one that i was gonna use to build a dual stage but never did. You will still need a MBCs but you will use the solinoid as a "gate."

yeah, AVCR is the shit, gear dependant boost control!

MBC are defiantly not rocket science. You can always check them by utilizing an air compressor and a spray gun regulator. Alot of the MBC you buy are junk compared to what you can make.
