Just courious if anyone knows about building a 302 with 289 rods?

Yeah, with the rod being .065 longer you mill the top of the piston or buy a piston with diff. pin height.

Why do that to get a 306 when you can just go .030 over on a 302 and get the same result?

Its referred to as a "long rod" 306" or whatever. Travis is correct, dan had his lingo wrong. I really don't think anyone does it much, at least i haven't heard about it in a long time.

Just an idea.. I have 2 5.0 roller blocks and thinking of building one for the fastback and one for the kids car... Trying to build a budget motor....
