this is the message I got from the guy. Sounds like a helluva deal to me... just need to get the work done.
Come out and see it. Yes the engine is so new Its still at the machine shop. Manual trans, AWD, Turbo. The engine cost $1900 and still has a $500 balance that gets paid out of the money. Its has ARP head bolts, rod bolts, Balance shaft removal kit, new oil pump (Not rebuilt), new everything else for the engine. You will need a new clutch and pressure plate to change from 7 to 6 bolt cranks but a lightweight setup is the best anyways. I paid $1800 for the car 2 months ago and then $1500 to the machine shop so far. Our house just sold last night (Much faster than expected) so I would rather not move it. I will send you some pics in the morning.

Nice, we'd all really like to see the pictures when/if you get them.. For a project car, it sounds pretty decent!. Definitly not somthing you'll make money on, but rather somthing you will have a great time with..

LOL looks like a lot of work....
talntid
02-03-2007, 12:06 PM
Yeah, for that price.... you would need to repaint it ($2k?), put the motor back in, hope it works, get some sort of standalone (Dsmlink)... all in all, you would have a wrecked & rebuilt 2g with fresh paint, a 6bolt, and dsmlink for like $5000+ a lot of work.

I have been leaning towards this one a little, the guy in seattle does not seem too motivated to sell his car. Maybe he was being forced to sell or some shit. lol

I say shoot for the latter if it’s in your budget...6bolt swap, has some mods and looks clean. I would never buy a DSM that I couldn’t test drive (unless it was for parts). I would hate to see you buy one that wasnt running just replace center diff then find out its has a host of other probs that he didn’t tell you about. Just my .002 dollars :-)

I say offer the guy with the broken center diff car $1600, I have a good center diff laying around that the gears can be taken out of and put into another car, or spend $300 and put a spool in and get to launch hard :-)

02-09-2007, 07:45 PM
Yeah I hear ya man... but shit I know how it is... put 6K into that damn mustang and sold it for less than I bought the damn thing for. there are a lot of them out there right now and this seems to be the best of the 5 I was looking at. Well I liked the one is seattle but the guy acted like he did not want to sell it. Luckily if it is a POS the tickets to and from portland are only $100, I will just fly my happy ass home and start over!!!

What exactly is a spool...? the one in portland has a rebuilt motor, head and new clutch.
a spool replaces the weak sauce spider gears in the differential and locks both sides together, a spool in the rear of a domestic makes both tires spin instead of one. a spool in the center diff makes front and rear tires spin at the same speed making for better launches and harder driving, btw I'll PM you my phone number in case you have issues on a drive back since I R the king of dsm diagnosis.

OK here are the pics of the green weenie. lol I am thinking about putting the 17X7 Cobra R's from my mustang on it I am not sure yet though. The 245/45/ tires might be too big. :) Front bumper needs to be repainted other than that it is fairly clean.

245's on stock size rims is asking for trouble, 225's had quite a bit of a bulge.

02-11-2007, 10:25 PM
I kept the cobra R's from the mustang with the damn near new tires which were 245/45/17 they are going to be too big for the TALON. I believe the biggest tire I can put on a 17 for the talon are 235/45/17.

Thanks T, I should be ok running 215/45-17 then according to the chart. I was out there this AM and noticed there is no room at all between the tire and the strut tower. about a finger so the 245's are not going to work. :)
