LOL JK! OK friggin DSM "gremlins" were in effect tonight. I was driving home and while going up a hill I hear a loud whoosh but not like the turbo. So I look at the oil pressure, heat, all the gauges seems fine. I take it easy so the turbo does not boost, drive it for a few more feet then then I notice smoke from hell coming out the back of my car... OMFG it was like some spy movie smoke screen. lol So I pull the car over to take a look and of course it is dark, I have no flash light and it is cold as hell. The first thing I notice is that the exhaust manifold glowing red. (WTF?!?) So next I check the oil and nothing. Damn so I have to assume now that the oil seal went completely out or I have one hell of an oil leak, I probably toasted the turbo!!! OMFG what a night.

Luckily a friend of mine came by in his truck and happened to have a tow rope... can't believe the luck!!!

If any of you DSMR's have any troubleshooting tips let me know...! Oh damn I love my talon!!! LOL

Thanks.

mabey broke the shaft on the turbo, or at least blew it bad, the glowing red manifold is scary but it's actually normal, no oil means big oil leak or that you did'nt put enough in last oil change :-)

I am hoping it is just a toasted turbo, I checked the oil lastnight before I left the house. I have yet to check the car out in the daylight.

We can work something out for just turbo/exhaust mani - you won't be able to boost it hard for very long, but it'll run right... you won't regret upgrading to bigger ;)

Need some cobra R's w/5k on the tires. lol JK

Sounds familier.**If you broke a shaft, then you'd have oil dripping out of your exhaust, and exducer wheel pinned aginst your front o2.**

Drop your down pipe, look for oil.

I'll sell your a 2000 mile evo316g, ported 2g manifold, 02 housing. I've had my eyes on a t3/57 trim anyway..

2GTalonTSI
02-22-2007, 09:52 AM
OK I have made up my mind, I am going with another stock turbo for the time being, just need to get it going again. Got at the turbo lastnight and it was trashed. I am getting a lot of input from various people and it is getting confusing to say the least. LOL So for now my goal is to get it back on the road, do some research on turbos and work all the bugs out of the car. I am already 5900.00 into this bastard. LOL Thanks to all for your help!!!

It's a T3/T4 Manifold, and a T3/T4 .57 Trim Turbo. This is not a "fun" street turbo so much, but it is very streetable, and it will kick ass at the track. It will spool at 3500 RPMS or so, but will put you in the seat. To get the car running, you would need the Manifold, Turbo, oil line, and a little fabrication of I/C piping. To get it running GOOD, you would need the Turbo, Manifold, Oil line, FMIC, piping, and something to tune with (SAFC, DSMlink, etc) and some injectors. What I recommend though is to get the turbo, manifold, whatever u can afford, and just buy the other stuff in the future - keep your foot out of the boost and it'll be like driving a nonturbo car for now/

With how many dsmers there are around here we could probably rig up a 14b install kit....

02-22-2007, 03:41 PM
LOL I was thinking the same thing... hmmm...

Well I found a t28 with 500 miles on it in boise. Honestly I think the t3/t4 would be over kill for my use. ;) Don't get me wrong, I would love to have all that boost at my control but damn!!! lol

Kolat
02-22-2007, 03:55 PM
if you reaaaaaly just want to get the car running you could run it NA for pretty much no $ till you had the $ to upgrade properly :=-)

2GTalonTSI
02-22-2007, 03:58 PM
Ahhh hell I am going to get the t28 for 200.00, other people were trying to sell me a couple T28's for 650 shipped. Besides my sons birthday is next month and he is not getting screwed for the sake of more boost. lol

02-22-2007, 04:05 PM
haha :) $200 isn't bad so long as it has little to no shaft play

2GTalonTSI
02-22-2007, 04:09 PM
Shit it supposedly has only 500 miles on it before the car crank walked.

It doesn't look too bad... http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o51/TalonVoodoo/T28-2.jpg

Kolat
02-22-2007, 04:49 PM
banjo bolts WILL break unless you have spares, if you have spares then you can re-use them as many times as you want.

$8 at the dealer, think the 2g's use them, never bothered looking on my old beater, I'll check caps for ya and see what I can find.

Kolat
02-22-2007, 05:12 PM
just looked it up, looks like 2g's use oil lines with flanged fittings on both ends so no banjo bolts.

2g's use 2 banjo bolts for the 2 coolant lines.**You are going to want to buy 4 copper crush washers, 2 for each banjo.**Only place I could find then were the Mitsu parts department.**You would be best off to buy a 30in SS oil feed line from the filter housing to the turbo for $38 from importevolution.com and throw the stock 2g metal oil feed line away.** Unless you're supper carfull taking it off it will spinn the nut, twising the line and you'll be fucked..**

You'll want 2 more copper crush washers for the oil feed line.**I had mine made at House of Hose for $32, but I thought 24in would work, and as Eric will vouch, it baaiiiiirly fits..

Kolat
02-22-2007, 05:45 PM
MF650114 is the coolant banjo bolt

MF660065 is the copper crush washer

If you go down there tell chip that I said hi.

Can you give me the specs on the SS oil feed line: I think I will just go to house of hose and have one made. ;) What do I need to tell them?

2GTalonTSI
02-23-2007, 09:52 AM
OK From what I understand I will need the following:
1. 30in SS oil feed line from the filter housing to the turbo (house of hose can make one)
2. 2 more copper crush washers for the oil feed line. (MF660065)
3. MF650114 is the coolant banjo bolt X2
4. MF660065 is the copper crush washer x 6 - 2for the SSoil feed
5. Turbo gasket set
6. spend a couple hours freezing my ass off outside because I failed to build a garage again. lol

ONCE AGAIN I would like to thank all for their help!!!

FYI: all they show is a 28" SS Line http://www.importevolution.com/product_info.php?products_id=3485

Does the turbo come with the coolant lines and banjo bolts?**I'm pretty sure the banjo bolts are the same between the coolant and oil feeds.**But just to make sure, order a 91 turbo oil feed banjo bolt from Chip too.**Take that banjo bolt into HOH and have them make the line with a 3/8in unc fitting on one end for the filter housing and the banjo fitting on the other.**

4 copper crush and 2 banjo bolts for the coolant
2 copper crush and 1 banjo bolt for the oil
TD05H 7cm gasktets from RRE (http://www.roadraceengineering.com/garagesale.htm) Awsome price!**
Oil return gasket's (turbo and pan)
Copper Antizeze (stick)
4 new Mitsu turbo bolts.**Not 3 of them, 4 to replace the stud
New 02 housing bolts & nut.**I think its 1 nut, 3 bolts.
Downpipe gasket

Thats about it..**I'm not sure if the T28 uses a 2g oil return line or not, I think it does, so you won't need to worry about fucking with that..**shouldn't take more then 2 hours.. I'll do it for you if you want...

2GTalonTSI
02-23-2007, 02:58 PM
Damn I appreciate the list, thanks. That is a big help to me, I left the pics home SO I cannot remember it the coolent lines etc come with it.

I fugured it would only take a couple of hours, if I run into issues I will give you a holler. My car is about 37 Miles out of spokane and would not want to make you go out there. ;)

03-04-2007, 12:32 PM
HEY I got the T28 in this AM, took a little more than 2 hours. It took a little longer than I wanted it to but the SMIC was all messed up with oil in it... had to clean it out with gas... was an expensive cleaning with the price of gas. LOL

She pulls fine and no more damn smoke. lol

I just want to thank everyone for their help and input, it helped a lot.
