mrmngrl has a 1988 corolla FX which has thrown a rod. I have seen the car but have not looked closely at it. What can be done to these cars? 4age swap? what is popular? For more power. :)

Donate it to cars for charity... Just kiddin, 4age swap is possible, but is it worth the time and money to have a fwd 115 hp car?Another option is the 4agze which is S/C'd and puts out 145 hp or if you want to invest, AE101 and AE111 4AGE's which put out like 160 hp. I don't find it worth the money and effort to make it a project car.

Well, the other option is to drop a motor in it for only a reliable car status. :)

Go with the 4AGE...you can build them up quite a bit! That's what a lot of the AE86/AE88 guys use for their drift projects - they generate plenty of horse. Plus there are TONS of parts available, and they are very responsive to turbo.

There is also another 4AGE that has like 5 valves per cylinder (i know it sounds wierd), and it is supposed to be a VERY nice motor to build up.

Another question is- how hard is it? And does anyone really know how to do it- Eric doesnt really know how, and I sure as heck dont know how (most of the time i have no idea what you guys are talking about...lol) but i need it done by September, so someone who knows how to do it to either a) tell eric how to (known manuals or whatnot) or b) help him :). Let me know!

Im in the process of buying a 84-86 corolla sr5 or GTS if i can find one. Ive been reading about the 4A-GE swap and so far everyone is telling me that its a hard swap. Umm ill look more into it tonight.

My room mate is selling his SR5 AE86 if you're interested. The 4AC that was originally in it got a bad case of rod knock and needs a new motor, I know he isn't looking to get a ton out of it, let me know if you're interested.
