So im trading some work to a guy that has an '89 5.0 5spd that has front end damage and has been sitting for a year or so but he said it will fire right up. Ive never done work on these nor do i know anything really about em. I know its got a 302 and their good bolt-on cars to make power out of. I just wanna know if theres anything i should look for when i go to look at it or once i even have it. All the little things that a normal person wouldnt know about when it comes to these cars. Any info is greatly appreciated. Is it F.I. or carb'd? Thanks in advance.

Eventualy im looking to run like a 95ish MM turbo on it and heard that even at low boost they make good power. That they run a forged piston from the factory and runs an 8.8-1 cr. any truth to all this?

Just look for the normal stuff. Lots of people liked to abuse the 5ohs but there are some real jems left. A 95 is retardedly big for a 302. a 70 is big for a non modified block. A stroke and some nice breathing heads can definetly support that type of thing but keep it simple at first. If the price is right foxbodies are worth their weight in gold for the fun factor. Oh and it is a FI engine stock.

Ya i got to thinkin about it after i put that up and did some lookin around and realized that ya....it was too much. Also, do these cars have the 9" rear end? Basicaly i want boost and to be around 400hp. I havent even seen it yet, but the guy said that motor was just gone through, and the rear end was just rebuilt as well. Everythings pretty much good except the front end which he said needs a new core support. He already has all the new body work. Im pretty excited as im trading for $1500 in labor.

The car has a 8.8 quad shock rear end..More than likely 308-327 gears and a compression ratio of 9-2.1..Will support 400 ponies in bone stock form as they are forged trw pistons from the factory and roller cams also..Ask travis, ben, brian,Shit half of spokane they are a tuff little engine that loves BOOST!! I have a shit load of mustang parts if you need anything just let me know? C

Ok, so heres what ive found out. 89 Mustang GT 25th anniversary. 2200 miles on rebuilt motor and new clutch. New oem ford rear end. 5spd rebuilt 5k ago. The guy who owned the car was hit by a drunk driver. So the front end is all whacked. But the guy im getting it from has the front bumper cover, headlight support beam new fender and hood. need some core support work. The car has been sitting for 6 months and when we went to start it it didnt even take a full turn to fire over. Absoultly no smoke and clutch feels very strong. So basicaly its just cosmetic.

Heres the pics

So aside from a couple of coolant leaks, the thing runs very well. Even with no fan it wasnt heating up too bad, and i did have to go and buy a new alternator. To get it from the valley up here we had to zip tie the bumper cover on so it wouldnt look sooo bad. And it has not an ounce of headlights in it, so if anyone has a parts car or knows of anything, hit me up. With a soft launch on bald tires, being bone stock, it lights up the tires through 1st and 2nd. I can tell its gonna be a fun project. I also need the unibody from the shock towers foreward cut off and welded on my car, so if anyone knows anything bout that, hook me up. We'll see how it does with like 7-8lbs of boost on her. With these, and going with boost, whats the best way to take care of the tuning side of things? Without spending a ton of money on a ECU setup.

Run a carb, seriously. Its the only way to go with boost. Hit Travis up for all the info you'll need. (if you do a carb I would be interested in all the FI stuff)

Carbs are great for boost!! Dont let them scare you, they really are not very complicated. Here is some good info about carbs + boost. http://www.turbomustangs.com/smf/index.php?PHPSESSID=e6d00ff28022b3d72ac92d9e28cb14 5f&board=13.0

I'm contemplating an EFI 5.0 in my 4runner so thats good to know. As soon as a new Tacoma comes home I'll break into that project, like I dont have enough else to finish...

ON topic: You'll probably burn through that clutch pretty quick even on lower boost (and the tranny too) if you power shift too often. A King Cobra clutch is what I remember being the popular choice. Might keep that in mind too.

Yeah, I still have it. If I part it out I'll let you know, however I am keeping everything for my next project. More power, less weight......
