Well the ol' stock block 150k worn out engine in my firebird hit the dyno tonight! With new turbo's it made 646 whp at 23 psi boost and then we decided to pull the pin on the GRENADE and hit it with a 75 shot of NOS and at 25 psi it laid some pipe with 703 whp and 723 ft. lbs torque!
Craziest thing i have ever seen from a cast piston stock rod 2 bolt main block with 150000 miles on it! Yeehah!

That is just INSANE! I think you got your money's worth out of that block.

Hell, i'll quote ya! Your right. Its about 8.8 to 1 and is indeed a cast piston motor. It came out of a friends truck and i got it for free. It all started as more of a joke to put it in after my good motor had weird ring failure. I thought it would be fun to see if you treated it like a race motor, tuned it like a race motor and fed it race gas if it would live. The answer seems to be YES! I have lots of documentation and pix to prove it was really done and about the dumbest crazy ass thing i have ever pulled off successfully! I am by far the weirdest person i know.:P

I dont' remember the name or process, but are these pistons specially heat treated OEM?

I'm also running a cast piston in my Honduh, supposedly they are specially treated, and so far they have been taking the abuse quite well.

Cast pistons FTW!

Just curious.... If the HP went up 40hp why would the TQ go down by 5?

don't see where his tq was posted from the first run, but hp=tq*rpm/5250 so if he reved to a higher rpm it'd be easy to get more hp with less torque...look at honduhs :-)

It went down because it doesnt spool as fast and kinda misses the meaty part of the torque curve now. Max torque always happened at the first point it hit max boost and the rpm got later with the bigger turbos. I could have dynobraked it to really thump on it but i played it way safe to keep the crank INSIDE the block! LOL I also started the runs at a higher RPM to minimize WOT time to try and guarantee survival. Hearing that poor thing jump up on the juice and thunder was something else! I almost felt sorry for it until i remembered its a piece of shit and it doesnt matter! Still makes a good boat anchor even with a hole in the side.:D

Thank you sir! Much appreciated. Its always good when all the hard work ACTUALLY pays off for once instead of turning into a EXTERNAL combustion engine! LOL

ha ha, tell Ray i said hi! Im sure he has some good stories about me! Ask him about the time he was hot rodding thru some neighborhood back in the day when his glasspack muffler slipped off the pipe and caught on the floorboard and picked up the back end of the car and launched him into somebodys yard! Thats a good one! Or the time he was being chased by the cops in Idaho and they blocked off the streets trying to catch him and he had to hide behind a barn all night till morning before going home. Ooops i think that one was supposed to be a secret.:D

haha yea thats good to know some of those storys to bring up in class considering this is his last quarter cause hes retireing...but so far we are doing a pretty good job of giving him a hard time before he retires...lol...I always B S with him about turbos and shit but yea he was telling us how when he had u as a student u told him that u were running 11.90's in your chevelle and he didnt believe you until one day he was helping you with something on your car and he saw a time slip in your glove box and was like "holy shit this kid really is running 11.90's" lol...but yea ill tell him u said hi..oh yea another thing he just traded one of his cars for a Cobra at the portland swap meet last week...im anxious to see this beast, hes actually waiting for a nice day to take it out....

Ha ha its funny how a story changes over the years! Now remember this was back in 88-89 and a FAST car ran in the 12's back then. I had a timeslip in the car that read 13.20 and he didn't believe me that it ran low 13's and he peeked in the glovebox and it was sitting on top of a pile of probably 150 timeslips! I wish it was 11.90's back then! LOL

haha yea see Rays getting old so he probably forgot and kinda exaggerated it and said 11.90's.:D but yea i was reading this thread and told him what you made dynoing your junk yard motor and he was pretty impressed. he was like "marty has always been a smart guy, hes like einstein or something" lol.. then he went off about how back then he was teaching transmissions at the time and how your project for the class was a custom shifter that you put together. But yea Rays a good guy, so far hes the only teacher that i can B S about turbos with all day and the whole class has to just sit there and listen.. lol
