Does Spokane make you wear a helmet? How fast do you have to be before you are required to have one?

I went 11.68 last year and was trapping 119-120 and was never told anything about a helmet.

Supposed to be 13.99 for wearing a helmet.**I've seen people going as fast as low 11's without though. It's your head dude.

I have never seen any rules on paper that state when you should wear a helmut. I have a convertible but I do not put my top down and I don't even get my car to 100 down the track and I don't wear one...

I guarantee you my seatbelt is going to keep me 100x safer than anyone who shows up at the track on a motorcycle regardless of their gear.
I guess I will start wearing my helmet everywhere I go because BOOGEYMAN from the internet told me to...

I was told in previous years that the AHRA requirement for a helmet is 12.49, but why is it such a big deal. Put on the damn helmet.

Typical ricer......comparing apples to oranges!! Prostock bikes run in the 6.90's on good air but have you ever seen a cage a seat belt on one....NO and you never will. It is just like no seat belts in a boat, you want to get away from it in the event of an accident~!!
If you dont want to wear a helmet then dont!! Maybe some day when you actually have a fast car you will understand.

no kidding, hitting your head on a cage over and fucking over sucks, you can actually get hurt more in an accident if you have a cage and no helmet on.

No kidding! Although I remember this same argument last year and I specifically remember April referring to a helmet as a helmut history seems to be repeating its self lol. The truth of the matter is srp is so fucked up and unorganized that you can pretty much do what you want if you bitch enough the left hand dosent know what the right hand is doing. The current gm Jimmy Tice is a raging alcoholic who carries a gun and threatens to shoot his employees that's when he is not drunk and missing in action half the time on Friday nights his drunk ass was no where to be found and we could not make any decisions with out him being there to give the ok [/rant] That place is shit granted its the only place we got! To answer your question about the helmet the rule of thumb we tried to follow was if you looked like you where doing over 120+ through the traps on a Friday night w/o lights you needed a lid on light nights 11 seconds or faster got you a need a lid to run prize. But then again you had Metz out there running 10"s W/ no cage and they just told him to slow down! No offence to bob windham or Jason but srp and its "tech department" is a complete fucking joke!

If the rules said a helmet isn't required at all, and you drove an 8 second car, would you wear one? What about 9 second? 12 second? How about if it were only an 1/8th mile?
I think my number would be at 90 mph (I don't remember what the corresponding ET is for that MPH. It has been so long since I've been there). So, even when I run 1/8th mile tracks, I'm far passed my 90 mph limit.
GetawayInMoscow
04-02-2007, 10:35 AM
If I had an 8 second car, I would have a helmet and a cage and racing seats and harnesses. The reason I asked is because I don't personally think there is a need to wear a helmet in a 13 (maybe 12 if I get lucky) second car, and wasn't planning on it unless the rules specified that I had to.

Well, figuring I go straight on the 1/4 mile, my car isn't fast and I'm not as stupid as those idiots who choose to continue to race after the finish line and THEN turn left......yea I believe it will help me LOL

Well to draw a line between stupid answers and one you are getting is the fact that with one you are ALOT more likely to not be hurt. The fact that you are going in a straight line has no bearing on if something brakes and your cars goes left or right into a wall! And it has happen more then once to cars that are not even coming close to single digits! So I guess what travis is saying is that he would rather everyone wear a helmet and no one get hurt seriously even if you choose to think he is being a smart ass! Dose anyone remember the red Nova that flipped several times down the track due to something in the front end busting??? Ya it was scary to watch!

i dont even think this is a, "its my friend" dont piss him off or me battle...thats rather grade school in my opinion & god knows i always have one. fact is you should wear a helmet & you wont get hurt in the event something were to happen. whats the worse that can happen? helmet hair? big fuckin` deal...think of the injuries in day to day driving. now multiply that to the race track & shit happens...chris almost smacked the wall because of a stupid ass part breaking. had nothing to do with the driver, but had he smacked the wall going 100+ when the part broke his odds were more in favor of not getting hurt as bad since he had his helmet on...
and lmao @ jeffro & the april comment with "helmut"

I am not trying to act like a kid or that I am the toughest guy around......I just love confritation! :) Like I said earlier if someone wants to chance their life by not putting on a helmet when they are going 100 mph and beyond then so be it. We will just have to bring extra shovels and sponges to clen them up.
I heard a guy once bitching about the price of a helmet at a divisional race.....and my buddy Brian asked him, "You going to put a price tag on your life.....?" The guy had no answer.
If someone wants to put their life in the hands of a 1992 honda civic seat belt then maybe they can put a price tag on their life. I see what happens when people hit dash's, steering wheels, windsheilds, etc...... everyday and know what it looks like, not all of them surrive it!! And some of these are only at 60mph. Like I said before, no brains no pain.
Travis.

Okay this is fucking gay, you people have no logic what so ever.
I question THE RULES to see if I need a helmet for my 13 SECOND CAR and you guys are all pissed off at me. While NIevo mentioned that he ran 11's without a helmet and NO ONE SAID ANYTHING TO HIM. So why am I an idiot and he is legit? Is it because his car is actually fast so it cancels out "stupidity"?
Does anyone see anything wrong here? You are yelling at the 13 second civic driver but you say nothing to the guy running 11's without a helmet, or even more importantly, the fact that Spokane doesn't seem to enforce it's helmet policy or it's loosely enforced.
Additionally, I've been going to FNSR for about 4-5 years now and you know what, I see a ton of cars A LOT faster than mine who are making lots and lots of passes and their drivers don't have helmets! And you know what? Most of you are probably included in that group too...

Breathe calm down understand that its the time of year on Spokane speed where we pick at each other and when you pick back then you get this whole situation what everyone is saying is regardless how fast your car is on the strip you should wear a helmet a simple rule should not make you have to wear a helmet you should do it for your safety plain and simple make peace not war (unless your bashing t) :)

What I am saying is due to the lax rules as mentioned before for your safety you should wear a helmet as we ( the whole freaking group) do not want someone to die or go thru the rest of thier ( young or old) lives with brain damage when it is a simple issue and choice( unless "rules" state otherwise)..... Travis is Travis and ya have to love him or hate him! But he like most of us have seem the lucky and the not so lucky at SRP and I think people should have to wear helmet's no matter what. And I say that because the racers are getting younger every year and who wants to see a young kid with 60 or more years ahead of him all fucked up......Sooooo with that said. I hope you make the choise that is good for you. And always remember safety first! Oh and watch the next kid to ask the same question will get the same responces..... LOL just wait and see
