View Full Version : tuning
Who do you guys trust around here to tune your car. I have a 92 GSX with the following parts - evo III turbo and manifold, 550 injectors, 3000gt fuel pump and maft along with some other little stuff but I am still on the stock exhaust and intercooler. But I need a tune and want to up the boost because I am still on the setup Pina Motorsports set me with for the engine break in so any help would be great. I would love to take it back to Pina but can't do with out my car for that long.

Where are you located?
Ok I don't have anything for tuning myself I don't have a clue on how the tune this car. All I know is what Pina told me when they built the engine I have the MAFT set up and don't know how it works. They did the tune for break in and boost was set at 10psi. They then told me after break in that I could retune it and up the boost. I then sold the car to my brother and after 3 months he gave it back to me and the boost is set at 15psi and I don't think it got retuned and I want to tune it to its full potential with the set up it has.
And I am located in the valley on broadway. My car is red and looks like crap but runs great so I am happy since it is a DSM.

You need a logging device to tune.**Buy a pocket logger.**www.pocketlogger.com $99 smacker..

A pocket logger will work well, but before turning the boost up anymore I would highly suggest replacing the stock intercooler with a FMIC, stockies heat soak pretty easy compared to a decent FMIC and if funding allows, get a 3" turbo-back exhaust system. If you think you're car runs "great" now, after those 3 things you're car will run amazing.

I agree with Mr Hoy, I wouldn't bother turning up the boost without those two items and a logger. In fact, with the MAFT's track record, I wouldn't drive the card hard at all until you can confirm that your trims are decent.
Ok I figured you guys would tell me about the FMIC and the exhaust but that will have to wait but who could tune MAFT to make sure my trims are right that is what I need to know if there is nobody in the local are I guess I will make the trip back over to Pina. I would love to get the FMIC and exhaust and some better electronics to keep the engine in check then turn up the boost throw some race gas in it and see what it is capable of but that is just going to wait. Does anybody have a similar set up with the turbo and following parts. If so how does it drive with high boost and what kinda times do you run at the track.

most of the DSM's here are either nearly stock or they are well modified...

Why do I always have to be the one with all the old toys? Lets not forget there is versions of the maft before 2.0
Let me break it down for ya like this. Forget the FMIC right now. Your injectors are only going to let you run at most 20psi safely. In reality you are probably going to be lookin around 17psi which is workable on the stock smic as long as you have cleaned it recently and are not trying to do back to back pulls on a hot day. Go on ebay and get you a cheap palm pilot m100 for say $10, but you a cable which you can also get off ebay for about 10-20 and then download one of the free logging programs. If you make it that far we can begin to tune.
As of right now I would turn down the boost. Someone correct me if I am wrong here but if the pump you have is anything like the 255, you are going to need a afpr to even begin to get your idle trims inline. Why are you even running a maft with the limited amount of mods you have? I saw almost 20psi on my stock 1g setup before i hit boost cut.
Lastly if you get all this and you feel like driving to the tri cities on a weekend I will help you and make sure before you come you have a exhaust shop weld a extra bung on your exhaust before the cat so we can install a wideband for a few tuning passes.
