well i mainly posted this for steve but im sure others can find it useful. about a year ago i bought the last nokia data logging cables from radio shack part # 170-0762. this is the cable that pgmfi.org shows how to build. i love the usb cables rather than the serial port ones. anyway when they stoped selling them i got another cable that they have im not sure of their part number but on the box it says cable #22. just go inside and ask you might have to try a few stores cause i think they are not stocking a lot of these. (but they still make them and some stores have them in stock) so get the cable #22 and follow the diagram below. just so you all know i had to search everywhere for the pin outs for this cable. it turns out that its almost the same as the old one they just changed the TX wire from red to white. so on the CN2-CN3 on the ecu you have pins 1-5 and they are numbered. cut the end of the cable off that used to go into the cell phone port. you will see like 8 or so different color wires. find the WHITE, ORANGE, and GREEN + SHIELD. the shield is just the bare wire that is twined in with all the other wires.

now hook the GREEN and the SHIELD wires together and solder them to one single wire. then solder the WHITE AND ORANGE wires each to a single wire. you need to do this so that you have enough cable to have the laptop on your lap not the floor, plus its a lot easier to solder to the ecu.(you should now have 3 separate wires) make sure you use a small gauge wire. its really that simple now just solder it in as follows

CN2-CN3

pin 1--------GREEN + SHIELD
pin 2--------ORANGE (RX)
pin 3--------NOT USED
pin 4--------WHITE (TX)
pin 5--------NOT USED

all you need to get it all working now is use ecucontrol or whatever data logging software you want. ecucontrol works for both obd0-obd1 and i think has a great layout. of course BRE for OBD0 is also great. Then download the usb drivers. dont use the drivers supplied with the cable because you get all the crap that comes along for the ride.Pgmfi.org seems to be down at the moment so if you want the drivers post here and ill email them to you. its very simple to do this and the benefit it more than worth the work.
