So I came upon some information for a road race in N. California for cars that are bought, built, and race prepped for $500.00 or less.**I showed it to a few buddies in the WSU engineering department and we have decided to field a team for the '08 24 hour of LeMons in Tracy, Ca.
http://24hoursoflemons.com/

After reading the rules we found that the only things that werent included in the $500.00 budget were safety items (cage, tires, brakes, helmets, etc).**So, we needed a cheap car that we could build and prep for $500.00...good thing I had 3 Festivas in the shop...lol

So as it turns out, the Festiva (named Rupert) we originally bought as a parts car is now the only Festiva that runs.**We have decided to use a 1.6L B6 engine out of a 1988 Mazda 323 (82 bhp).**My teamates found a nice one at pull and save on Friday for $135.00.**We will be doing extensive headwork and fitting with some small bore motorcycle carbs.**The engine is an almost direct bolt in to the Festiva and when finished should yield us a massive 100+ bhp.**As you can see in the pictures below the work has already begun and I will update as progress continues.

Yep, should be fun. I spent most of Saturday getting a the ls/vtec turbo teg going, but my buddies did a good job. All the interior is out, bumpers modified, wing attached, chopped 3 coils out of the springs, and mounted the monster 13" aero racing wheels.

You need to get video documentation of this one.

The race is June of 2008. The car is still ready to go, but after seeing the destruction of a Festiva in the 2007 race I'm not sure if i still want to go.
