Well, it put down an acceptable amount a power ( i guess we always wish for more), but not without some fiddling around!

a little about the setup:
z6/ Suzuki Vitara pistons (cast :P)
Stock untouched head
t3/t4e 50trim .63a/r

Base run: 10-11psi 230whp 192trq
tuned base: 10-11psi 250whp xxxtrq

25-27psi uncorrected: 390whp xxxtrq
corrected: 382whp xxxtrq

On some of the graphs the ignition pick up was doing something funky, i think torque maxed out at 305 foot lbs, and hovered around that range.

What fuel were you running?

How much total ign. advance?

Its crazy russell, i have total timing at 14.5* @ 25.4psi (max for my gm3bar), which is alot more than what other vitara guys are running. But it wouldn't make anymore power untill i started stepping in more igntition. Plugs looked great!

Driving it might be another thing, i don't plan to run anything spectacular tomorow night. Most deffinately need some seat time.

That's where I ran my old D16 at was right around 12 to 14* total at 22psi. At 14psi it was around 16 to 18* total.

IMO I think why were seeing a low amount of total timing numbers is the fact that the people aren't checking their true base timing with a timing light or the ECU and/or software is off some.

That's why a dyno is the only way to set your timing by reading the torque numbers.

Keep adding timing until it quits making torque. At that point you have to make a choice if you want to pull a couple degrees out as a safety net or leave it in.

So the ignition timing becomes a reference for only that car.

Dyno tuning is way worth the money ;-)

ah yes, good point!

Also, BIG thanks to Brian for letting me play on the dyno.

SHHHHH don't say that, last time we were at the track the final day last year he snapped an axle on the prepped track.

Those are some damn nice numbers Meng, I'm glad me and the 240 are down here in cali, you would destroy me this year. What are the changes in your set up from when you dyno'd last time and did 325ish whp at Shelley's?

LoL... my luck, its gonna be the broken axle.

Tomorow night i'm just gonna take it easy out the hole, i'm not gonna even try replacing the axles in the dark.**

thanks man, too bad your not up here chillen, its always fun mobbin with the crew to the track.

I sold the alky injection to Russell, ditched the .48 for .63 housing, 780cc injectors and more boost.

switching from the .48 to .63 is a huge trade off. At Shellys we pulled up last years dyno sheets and compared them to today's and with the .48 housing i have about 100ft lbs trqe more at 4500rpms than with the .63. :eyes: But the trade off comes into play about 5000rpms +.

How are things down there in Cal?

Hey Russell,

Can you take a peak and just give me some feed back based on what you did with your D.
Everything runs smooth and plugs have checked out fine, but i'd like someone else to look at it to make me feel better. :)

Trick 114 fuel about 2gallons mixed with 1/2 gal.

Meng you ever think about running toluene? I've been reading a lot about it and was considering trying it. I think toluene is 116 octane.

KryptoSol

I used to mix in a gallon to a half tank back in the day, but i'm gonna stick with race fuel.
It certaintly didn't have the characteristics as race gas.

e85 would be cool to play with though...

Toululene will work, but accuracy is very tough to achieve. When I was in Texas shortly before coming to Cali, E85 was interesting to see run through a performance car. There was a guy running a shop called Deep Stage Motorsports who had a fully built SR Powered S14 with a GT35R on it and the E85 allowed him to do 468 whp on moddest boost with a noticeable sacrifice in fuel economy, but with no lean condition issues. The E85 was also $1.69 while regular unleaded was $1.99 (late january/early february). The only real downfall was lower fuel mileage... but at high hp who gives a crap about that... well meng will since he drives his car a lot, but besides that, the car performed and ran very smoothly not to mention it pulled like a raped ape.

As far as Cali goes, things are going well but at the end of the month I am moving to Orange County, the desert is too damn hot for me. I will be up in Washington around the 15th, depending on if I decide to start at another dealership before I head to Washington, I may stay up there for 7-10 days. I will keep in touch with you and your bro and let you guys know closer to june when I plan on being up there.

sweet! hollar when you get to the evergreen state.

Tonight wasn't so sweet for the del SLOW. Yeah, i'm the 300+ HP Honda guy that runs 14s. :P

Cars... they can be frustrating sometimes.

Well, since the dyno session, i was too busy to drive the car and make sure to put some real world load on the motor and check everything out. I should have known better.

So this is what i was dealing with... 9-10:1 a/f ratios in between shifts. Unfortunately, i didn't log my first run, and my laptop lid decided to close during my 2nd run which turned the machine off.
3Rd log, well i tried to clean it up the best i could but ran out of time to run. blah... racing... and... cars.... its alot of work sometimes...

attachment:
dips in o2 log tell the tail.

EDIT: OMG! i went back and looked at the elapsed time spent in those overly rich conditions... between the 3 dips is almost 2.5 seconds. :o

All the other Hondas where running pretty strong though. :)
