So i got my car put together 2 days ago and drove it yesterday and today and slowly started smoking and getting worse to the point it went through a quart of oil today. So WTF!!! I i went to pull the head and 2 of the head bolt were stripped out to the point of where i loosed them by hand and then i couldnt get em out cause there was so much metal in the hole. I torqued the head down in 2 steps, 22ftlbs and then 62ftlbs. And they all tightened down pretty well. And just until i got the feel for it again i backed the timing off to decrease cylnder pressures. So what the hell, lol. And the 2 hole are fucked beyond belief. We tried timeserts and helicoils and neither would feel right just threading the new head bolts in. So basicaly the block is a waste after letting 2 engine shops look at it. So....anyone got an LS bottom end they wanna donate to a good cause, lol.

Wow, I figured you were talking about the cam covers because those bolts are pussy, but a head stud? That doesn't even make sense. 62 ft lbs isn't that much for those bolts, hmmm.

did u reused the stock head studs?
hey steve maybe some kind of liquid (oil or something) was in the holes when you torqued the studs in...coulda caused hydrolock...shit happends a lot with studs if they arent cleaned....

I was told its too far gone for even helicoils or timeserts. Basicaly its junk....well, without spending more than what the whole motor is even worth.

Throw the block away, sell the crank to some all motor guy on H-T, rods too probably.
you could go to a bigger helicoil and run a small block stud...haha then you can say that your motor is held together by chevy!! haha

LOL, Josh told me what he really did to his LS. and wow. Like running seafoam and greased lightning crap for like 2 days.
I think i might have come up with a solution....and it involves accord head bolts.

So i figured out that with a little work....the accord single cam head bolts will work in an LS block when the hole is retapped to a M12x1.5. So the car is back together and the head torqued down to 62ft/lbs very comfortably. So now i gotta pick up where i left off with tuning and being set-back 2 weeks now. But its running.
