The myspace link is not working for me?
It really depends of how much body work needs to be done, jambs or not, engine compartment or not, color change, what color(s). Body and paint work is alot of work and time and is not cheap. If you are looking for just a quick paint job so it looks a little better then macco is probly your best bet.
just depends on what you want and how much you want to spend.

those bastards quoted me 1200 bucks with me havin all of the bodywork done and primered. They would only have to do the base and clear coat...with the rep that they have, 1200 bucks is ridiculous!!

Thats actually on the cheap side! The primer needs to be hand blocked then wet sanded around the whole car wich is very time consuming, then you figure all the tape and paper, drop cloths, wax and greese remover, etc....
Then all the sealer, base coat(S), clear, strainers, tac rags, reducers, activators, spray mask's, etc.....
Plus all the Labor involved and the money it cost to run their booth, shakers, lights, compressors, tools, etc....
Last but not least the whole car gets sanded and buffed to remove any little imperfections or dirt/peel that got into the clear.
All that done for 1200 is dirt cheap!

I dont have a ton of experience, but I did a LOT of body and paint on my brothers truck, and body/primer on my Duster. But I can give ya a hand & some pointers from my personal experience possibly week after next (boating all this next week :P)
lemme know.

Actually guy had 68 Charger done there (Im not sure one on Sprague or on Addison) but they did excellent job on his paint job. It was a while ago so it would be considerably more right now. I dont do much body work on side because its hard to find people that actually want to pay money for bodywork but they still want a show quality paint job for $300.

I see one of those Z cars when going to work pretty much everyday. It is neatly restored and has decent paint job on it.
Make sure you get big enough compressor, you will also need exhaust fans for spraying any kind of paint. D/A's suck lots of air, get biggest compressor money can buy and it better not be 120V unit.

I sure as hell could have used a heated shop on more than one occasion....hell i still could haha...
I think biggest recommendation if you want to do your own body/paint work is to find and read a couple times at least some literature on body work and paint. And....something that I learned a little from was umm....oh...i think it was HOT ROD magazine has down a lot of articles on doing your own paint job.
Even if you do your own work.....show quality will probably set you back at least $3k in supplies. Half ass decent maybe what...just under a grand. As long as you dont go rattle canning it.
As a first time project car...for a first time car person I think this is a good experience if anything to just learn crap. You've got a good car to work with

I'll Call Tom here on the base, he is a pro at putting paint on and is cheap on his prices (beer usually works) ...

Hey thanks guys! this really helps alot. im getting one of those huge ones that cost like 450 from harbor frieght. (just referenceing the size) from our neighbor for some work that my dad did. So i will be able to run whatever i need. But yeah i really appreciate the help! im not looking for a show car paint job, just a decent one that will last me a few years untill im older and have more money to really put into it...im anxious to drive it but i want the bodywork done right the first time.

I second that, when I sanded my Mustang I had to wait for my little 24Gal Compressor to fill up every 15 friggin minutes. ;)
I have done some reading here, http://www.autobody101.com they were fairly helpful even have DVD's if you want to spend the cash. But I am sure there are a lot of helpful resources on this site as well. :D

ha ha not for $250 and only a "few days"work at most as they advertise! I went there for a repaint for my car when I got into an accident and they tried to tell me it would take a day and a half to get it done. Primer takes a day to dry, paint takes a day to dry, clear coat takes a day to dry...yea that's at LEAST 3 days. Plus, in their quote they don't do clearcoat...uh.....a paint job INCLUDES clearcoat...they told me it would cost extra. Lots of orange peeling with that place too.

The PPG stuff I used said to spray the clear like an hour after laying the basecoat so that takes a day off the process...

I can sand primer within 45 minutes of spraying it!!! You spray both basecoat and clear in the SAME day not two seperate days.....We can roll a wrecked car into the shop at 7am and if we have all the parts ahead of time we can have it torn down, repaired, primed, painted, baked, cut and buffed, back togeather, detailed and ready for the customer by 5 pm!!

Wow Travis, no need to be rude. I have just always followed directions when I've done touch up paint. Maaco still does a shitty job though. Doesn't change my mind.

Dont think he was trying to be rude... Yeah, I remember when we sprayed the base coat, we went straight to the clear while it was still wet. The epoxy primer dries pretty damn quick like Travis said. Its easier to sand before it sets up too hard...
