I don't understand what the big sitgma there is with the Mustang with the '5.0' is. I swear that people think that just because the fender say's 5.0 it is the coolest thing out there!!! My step sister drive me crazy because she calls her 93 Mustang convert her "5.0"... What is this? Just cause Vanilla Ice talked about his 5.0 now it is cool????? The salesman that sold her her car said it was a 5.2 and was better than a plain 5.0. Her being her, had no idea what he was talking about and believed him. I asked her what the 5.0 stood for and she said it was the model of her GT convert like it was a collector car or something. :stupid:

Don't make my head hurt....that's just my perception on it. I don't feel that people should BRAG about having a 5.0.....but, it's not common with Mustangs. It's a good engine. I would always talk about getting a different car or whatever, but I had friends talk to me about the 5.0 issue and said that it is somewhat of a big deal to have it....I don't know lol

Well, if you take the total number of mustangs ever made (non 5.0) and compare it to how many 5.0 were made.....it would show that it's rare. Not as rare as a shelby for example or roush or saleen but they are rare.

I would estimate that through the entire production of the Mustang, a 4.6 is more rare then a 5.0. Just a guess though.

5.0 is the displacement of the engine in liters. In cubic inches this Ford engine is 302 (actually 301.5936, but who is counting?!) An interesting note is that in cc’s (cubic centimeters), it is actually 4,942.2334cc making it a bit shy of an actual 5.0 liters, but most manufacturers like to round up!

One last thing, the displacement of an engine is a simple geometrical formula that calculates the volume of each cylinder derived from the bore and stroke of the engine times the total number of cylinders. Another way you could look at it is that during one complete cycle, or two complete crankshaft revolutions, an engine could take in, use and expel this volume of air (and fuel!) at 100% volumetric efficiency.

Never refried to my car as a "5.0" even when I had my 94 GT which had a "5.0" in it as my GT just as a way of separating my car from the 4 and 6 cyl cars out there even now with my super duper rare "4.6" I still refer to it as my GT or the pony or the bologna pony ;). But I totally agree with the vanilla ice thing that song was written about my 94 convert. I think people should reserve the "5.0" for a term referring to the 5 oh :)
