Looking to set up an Asterisk box. Compensation available if you know your stuff, but I don't want to be paying for too much of a learning curve. :)

I know my stuff when it comes to Linux.
Are you looking for Asterisk for home or office use?

Office (and home too most likely).
I've already picked out a service carrier and signed up. Just need to get the box going, pick out some phones (~16 - we have a couple ideas - IPphones), and port our numbers over.
Do you have any experience with Asterisk or pretty quick picking up on stuff?
Also, does anyone have any recommendations for a business class router with firewall and QoS features?

I know someone that can do Voice over work for your phone system. He works cheap and has a great phone voice.......

I pick stuff up extremely fast, and have a vast knowledge of Linux. I am currently working as the IT guy for a marketing company, and I oversee the phone system we use (Nortel BCM 400). I also admin DSMTuners.com, EVOTuners.net, SpeedTuners.com, and obviously SpokaneSpeed. They are all dedicated Linux servers. Are you going to be looking to dial from PC's, or from physical phones?
What are you doing?

We are going to switch our phone system over to VOIP. We want to be very hands on in concerns to the buildup and install because when there is a problem, we would like to be able to fix it.
I've got the basics figured out and a basic plan for deployment, it is the configuration aspects I'm having issues with.
We would like to have a fully tested and functioning system by the end of February.
I've installed AsteriskNOW on an old computer I had laying around and am having a hell of a time just getting DIAX (softphone) to register with it. With my research, it may be a domain/realm issue, but have no idea how to get passed that.
I would really like to do most of it myself in baby steps:
1. get a softphone to reach another inneroffice softphone
2. get voice mail working
3. make an outbound call
4. receive an inbound call
5. receive and make multiple inbound and outbound calls.
6. Integrate hard ipphones and configure with the system.

So to be clear, what you are looking for is someone to show you how to do what you can't figure out?
Maybe we should talk on the phone

Yup, pretty much. :) Though, I would word it "someone to help take the sharp steep curve out of my learning curve since I have a family and don't have the time to figure it out." (Not can't figure it out).
PM Sent with phone number.
