Well as some people have already said saturn's are looked down uppon by most everyone. But for anyone who knows about building saturns what would you suggest. for now i'm thinking dohc head swap, cams, intake, muffler (already has new exhaust just used a stock muffler) rims, tires, short shifter, rear disc conversion, lower it, repaint (even though nice as is) have a trans built with welded diff pin. get a turbo build a turbo kit for it. get a wideband and safc 2 to tune it, and some bigger injectors, and hope for the best. it might run 13's with decent boost if it can hold it.

Nitrous. And lots of it. 400-500 worth. That should get you run'n quicker than 13's.

Has anyone ever heard of a fast Saturn? Only thing I can think of is the new Ion Redline or Sky...

If you are going to 'build' something I would look at something else. From what very little (read really none) research I have done on the previous Saturn line up they start with piss poor power and an engine that really doesn't have much capability.

When you say 'build' I am thinking taking the engine out putting in harder parts, setting it up for massive boost use or nitrous or something.

At least you aren't driving some Red Supra or something. I would feel sorry for you than! :D

well i've had about 4 cars in the last year.. maybe more.. so i really dont want to sell this one too.. but i might just put rims on it and sell it. i guess you could say i got the saturn for 600.. bcause i traded the 90 eclipse for the 92 civic which i traded for the saturn. and the guy who sold the eclipse recently sold it for like 600..

IMO, if you are looking for something with easy modability that is relatively easy, I would look in the DSM, F-body, or Mustang market. Each one of those time and time again have been prooven to be made relatively fast for little money... Or find something that comes boosted from the factory, always easy to find stuff for them and usually bolt-ons can give you a good amount of power.

Talk to greg's wife, she knows how to race them. And how to survive a roll over afterwards.

Yup. She put lots of people out with that car. Gotta love bracket racing. And it wasn't much of a roll over... more of a tip over. haha

no hard feelings but why would one modify a saturn? It was not ment to go fast. There's plenty of other good cars out there worth modifying with better chassis already. You'd be just wasting your money on it. Just keep it way it is. Especially with high gas prices, if you can get 30mpg or more you should just stick with it and drive it to work, etc. if you have one.

I have an idea. Go to the supermarket. Look in the magazine section. If there is a whole mag devoted to a car, buy one of those cars. Power parts galore. Lots of people have built fast Camaros, Mustangs, DSMs, Civics, etc.

Don't buy a lowered S-10, just b/c there is a magazine.

Old Fox bodys and used 302's are cheap and plentiful, unless you hear some chicks talking about them. Then they are "rare" [cough].

Save your Saturn for driving you back and forth to work, where you will make money to blow on your "race car".

No body kits. No spoiler/wings. No fartcans. No vinyl. Once you are turing 12's *then* you can make your car look like ass.

I've had dsm's before and nobody who owns one will say their reliable. MAYBE if there driven the speed limit, short shifted and babied but not if their driven moderately. Something is always bound to break on them. The poj dsm i had ruined my outlook on them. and there are some saturns out there that could whoop a dsm. there was a turbo 4dr saturn that kept up with a mkiv single swap'ed supra. I miigght think about getting another mk3. but go turbo 5spd this time because the n/a-t auto kinda sucked.

It's possible to build a fast Saturn but to builid a weird, off color, import, that no one else builds up, you really need to have built a real car (or several), first. They need to be fast. Get a car you can build, then hold on to it for more than a year. Keep it. Read the magazines, buy the parts. Buy the books.

Don't say "I'm gonna...." if you don't have the parts and tools in the garage and a space on the calendar, to do it. If the eBay turbo is on your living room floor and you have your wirefeed ready to go, then you can say "I'm gonna put in my turbo."

F'rinstance, "I'm gonna get drag slicks and a pair of loops for the driveshaft, if SRP is open next season."

Last week of March, they go on.

I can say that, because I have the money waiting, the time available and a set of rims, waiting for the tires. I also have a .sig file with the list of other things I have actually done. If you haven't built a car, avoid saying "I'm gonna get a [fill in the blank] and build it."

Buy something workable that will get you to work, school, whatever and put money into making that a fast car. It will cost you thousands of dollars. In fact, doing anything to your car will really cost thousands more than you think it will cost.

I've spent a teeny grand, on my car's engine and suspension mods and haven't even scratched the surface.

yea, first one was a 96 civic, just stupid ricer stuff, cheap coil overs, 16's strut tower bar, and exhaust. then was a 78 chevy c20 flatbed. nothing really just 31's up front and 33's on the back to give it a street truck look. then a 92 explorer, f150 front coils, 2.5 lift shackles in the rear, custom cai, custom exhaust, cut the fenders, put on some 35's then sanded it down to bare metal and found out the quarter pannel was ALL bondo, and it slid into a pole and dented into the side of the truck where the driver side rear door was, and had a ton of bondo there. so i just put bedliner to cover all of that crap because it wasnt worth rebondoing everything for paint. and bedliner was strong for the trails. Then i had a 89 supra, non turbo, auto, targa top, leather, TEMS, had some gay rims on it, bought a turbo off a supra of the same year (so long i cant remember their codes) got a turbo manifold, and 3" downpipe, with a stock axle-back for the time being, mounted a fmic and some custom piping and had the freaking thing on jackstands for a year in our driveway and worked on it through the winter. then sold it. and got a 90 eclipse gsx, did a headgasket change, 3" exhaust from turbo back, bought a safc and cable for tuning eventually, painted the tan door to match, covered a bunch of oxidation by a coat of spray paint, got some rims and tires, then sold it, never got to drive it. then bought a 92 civic turbo.. all the work was done except it had no interior, got a new dashpad, some seats and called it good, put some good, yet too small for the car tires on and sold it for a 97 saturn.. and thats where i'm at.

Don't worry about the haters man. Your young...people probably told Lisa Kubo she couldnt have a fast saturn too.

Let me know if you need any help with the project, im sure we could make it fast

You know what. I have had my Galant since 2001. I bought it with no intention of modding. Its pretty much a good looking grandma car. 6 years later, the thing is a show winner. They have also come out with turbo kits for the car in the last couple years. Its not meant to be fast, but it just goes to show that you can do whatever you want. People made faces when I told them I was modding the Galant, and look at it now. Everyone loves that car and its a serious eye catcher. Took a ton of money and work, but it was all worth it to me. Do whatever you want. there will always be people to critisize you.

I've always liked galants, there awesome cars, and look good. I really dont knwo who lisa kubo is.. but i'll look it up hah. I might end up with my old 96 civic sedan back but after thinking about it.. its as built as i'd ever like it.. because i have too much love in that car to do anything drastic to it, and to be fast civic's need drastic stuff.. but its a fun car to drive. handles good. so i'll leave it and let my mom keep it. we bought it in.. 02 or 03 and paid 4500 for it, took me 2 years to pay it back then i gave it to mom and she bought the explorer and i've traded straight across from there till now when i got this.. so i think i'll stick with the saturn and see what can come out of it.
