So I want to hear from the gurus of LS1 power. I want to know what work you would do on a stock LS1 for more power on a street driven car. this won't be going in a Domestic either, so based solely on the engine. Not looking for great drag times or anything like that. It will be an auto also. Mild cam, LS6 intake and TB, and maybe a wet 100 shot for the weekend:) Also, don't want to spend a ton, the engine/tranny is enough as it is. thanks guys.

If you find a 01-04 LS1 it will already have the LS6 intake on it. If not LS6 intake, mild cam (check out the Thunder Racing 224/224) I made almost 400rwhp with stock heads, stock LS6 intake and headers. If you are looking to do heads for cheap look at patriot or PRC (texas speed) they both make good heads and good power for the money. A 100 shot would be easy on a LS1 I was spraying 175 to mine and when I took the motor out it showed no signs of being abused even though it was as you all know. If you go with a LS6 intake stick with the stock throttle body and maybe port it depending on your $$$ you could look at the fast 90/90 setup too. make sure though once you get the motor in and running you put a good tune in it or take it out to Brian at Shelley's and have him tune it. A good tune will keep the motor alive and make more power. Hope this helps if you have any other questions feel free to PM me or also check out ls1tech.com they have a ton of knowledge over there.

a set of headers and a mild cam will easily get you 350-375 rwhp. dont waste the money on a Fast intake the LS6 makes just as good power. i think the Fast intake makes less torque down low but out performs the LS6 up top. its not worth the 800.00 for the intake. if thats not enough put a decent set of heads on it and you could be at or near 400rwhp. make sure you to decide if your going to spray so you can select a cam that is nitrous friendly.

I like the new LS3 520hp crate motor setup with a carb! power and torque numbers of an LS7, but less than half the price, its a lighter motor plus it can handle more boost/nos! It should be available in April. It is the motor im going to use in the GTM project with a carb/efi intake and a stand alone injection system.

thanks guys.
for the money, it is much easier to find a decent mileage 98-00 and buy the LS6 gear. 01+ are much spendier for whatever reason I've seen. I've been lurking around the Ls1tech site for months reading and pricing as well. Lots of cams go for cheap around there and a 224/224 is exactly what I was thinking also. I've found some ported LS1 intakes for cheap too. This project has a fair amount of expense, so I'm looking for most bang for the buck b4 it drops in.
Not worrying about heads right now, that would be a next year project after I get the beast up and running. TwoTons, I have not bought one yet, but I'm looking to spend no more than $3000 shipped for a complete drop out with mid mileage. Thats a high estimate too, probably closer to $2700. Unless thats a stroked LS1 it wont work for me. Its dropping into an RX7 and the subframe bolts right up to the stock LS1 mounts.
The LS3 is insane and priced like it too. For the money of a dropout/crate LS3 you could have a fully built LS1 pushing 800hp or some crazy ish like that. I'll be buying in the next month or two at most unless something drastic happens. I will probably have my parts like these stock piled and waiting for it too...
oh and Shelley's will be a must. the car has to be driveable first.

The 6.0 Brian AKA twotons is speaking of is a iron 6.0L out of a truck or suv and all the 5.3, 5.7 and 6.0 stuff in interchangable so it would use the same motor mounts thats what I am using in my WS6 with the turbo project and everything off my 02 LS1 bolted right up to the 6.0L block. The 6.0L block is about 80lbs heavier than the LS1 but they are also stronger and of coarse witth have more displacement. You would have to talk to Brian about his block and setup but I think you could probably get his for cheaper than what you would buy a complete motor for but then again you would have to buy all the acc's too. I am into mine with Jeff Cassel doing the machine work $1600 but I got a smokin deal on some diamond pistons that were used for 1000 miles for $100 but you can find new pistons for anywhere from $500-700. If you do decide to go that way get a hold of me I think I have some extras of the acc's. Good Luck and can't wait to see that thing run
thanks guys.

thanks for the info, wasn't sure on the different blocks. I have plenty of work to do, so I would rather have a complete setup all bolted together than have to worry about that as well. But who knows, I'm always open to ideas and money talks you know? I would definatly need help putting everything together if not complete. thats the beauty and convenience of a full pullout with decent mileage vs. building piece by piece. If I had any machine work done to this, I would take it to Cassell as well.
Looking at LS1tech, a 79k mile drop out for $2800 and no one is even responding. Its always on the east coast for this stuff. So I would say $2500 for one about the same mileage closer to home would be great. Auto trannys go for way less than the manuals for sure. Thats about the amount of my tax return so I'm sittin pretty if I find one within driving distance.

try posting a wanted add in the northwest forum i was able to pick up a complete th400 setup for my WS6 from a guy down in bremerton just made a day trip down there and picked it up stopped in seattle for a couple hours and then headed home one day trip and there is quite a few guys down there doing iron strokers and such so i am sure someone has to have a LS1 somewhere. Keep an eye on craigslist down there too.
