Where is a good Shop to take to get a P&P and a valve job done. Specifically someone familiar with Mitsu engines?

Well, Cylinder Head Services seems to do a great job with everything but Mitsu heads.. Ask Eric...

Well with all due respect to john @ cylinder head service eric had the timing belt off on his car when i checked it..It may be possible to miss one valve but all of them i dont think so....I have spoken to john (today)about this and he said that all cylinder heads that are serviced at his shop are vaccum checked before they leave..but he would take care of it minus parts...Now i have had every cylinder head rebuilt by him from diesel to gas forklifts and even all my turbo(race) engines and never had a problem yet!! So until then i will stick up for his work.

The best and cheapest guy left now that tracy has passed on(Rest in peace) Is Bill polauzy @ cylinder head service he works wonders on all types of heads..just go in and ask for him and tell him what you are doing with the engine and he will make it right for you!!

Yep Bill and the guys at Cylinder Head have done my dodge and toyota head(s) before and they were always great. Thought Marty at Tims hot Rod might have done a few but you'd have to check.

Here is my opinion of CHS:

I made a post just like this one on the old spokanespeed, and everyone said John @ CHS. I took my head there and gladly paid the $300 with all parts and full head rebuild. I took the head back to my house.. boy was it purdy... and I then had my good friend and myself, as well as my father who works on 15k HP engines set the timing marks. Also my father recently did this on his personal metro, same car. They were NOT off. Well anyhow, it broke a rocker arm and the little disc that goes on the top of the valve spring, held on with a retainer. That piece just broke right off - I can post pics if anyone is interested. This is after putting the head on and letting the car attempt to idle for about 15 minutes. There was ample OIL in the head, too.

Took head back to them, they charged me for only parts. Took it back home, put a new HG on it, and threw it all back together. Same results, different rocker arm/valves. No piston/valve contact visible except where the valve was riding on the piston once the top of the valve stem broke. I was thinking WTF? so I took it back to them and asked them to recheck everything. It was great they said - I took it to S&S Engine Reman and they immediately checked the tolerances on the head from corner to corner and printed me out a sheet from the service manual showing it was out of spec. To me, this head should have never been rebuilt - they should have told me it was bad.

--------------------Eclipse Head------------------------

After doing a lot of looking, I could not find anyone else to do the eclipse head, and they had a ton of them on the shelf that looked great - Ok, Fine. Mistakes are mistakes.... so I took my Eclipse head to CHS - told them I wanted PERFECT - they hot tanked it and said it was warped. Ok, cool - so at least this time they are letting me know, I like that. So I bought another head and took it to them, a 1g nonturbo head. same thing except the cams which I had. They hot tanked it, said it was perfect, and gave it back to me. I installed the cams and got a MLS gasket and tq'd it all down with ARP's. Got pics of all timing marks. Good stuff...... until it showed extremely low compression.... fine I said.. my surfaces might not have been smooth enough for MLS - I did not have the block surfaced, but CHS did the head surface, it was beautiful. I never checked the valves when I got it back from CHS. so anyhow, I got a graphite gasket (100% OEM, it's what the car came with) -- I put it on with the same ARP's, set timing with the same mechanics mentioned before, and again took pictures. Started car, still crap compression... got frustrated and let car sit for a few months. Car at that time also had overheat problem and not running with MAS problem. Got those fixed (Chris burped coolant, I replaced ground) fixed it... Chris set timing, said it was a tooth off when he got it. still low compression. So I took head off per Kolat and put a flashlight in the runners, could see light from every valve. Gave head to Chris to have CHS do again, they said they would do it for parts only... We will see how it goes. Chris is helping me install head this time, too.

F2uning did the work on my prelude head, no issues but a spendy build.
There are some good shops in the seattle/ portland area. If you are interested I can get you info.

I am fairly sure it was done in house....saw them working on the port work a few times when I was there.

As far as out of town shops I would check out, horsepowerfreaks in Portland. Or Near the seattle area either intec racing or axiom motorsports. I have spoke with all these shops before and they know their stuff. There are other shops in that area that I have heard good things about but I havnt made any contacts with them yet.

Yeah when I do the Z Im having it done elsewhere, mainly because of the ecu tuning I will need. I dont think they are certified for AEM ecu tuning.
