I'm Mathew Cater the Owner of 555 Motorsports. I started our company a little under a year ago, in the idea of offering the best tuning solution I can. I found that there are many tuning companies that really don't care about their customers and I want to bring the focus back to customer satisfaction. This business isn't about just making a quick $, its about giving the people what they pay for and doing things the right way the first time.

Offer tuning for:
-Hydra EMS
-Link & Link Plus
-AEM Standalone
-Other Standalone ECUs

-Open Source Tuning (Subaru & Evo)
-Utec
-NepTune
-DSM Link
-Other Piggybacks (i.e.-SAFC, NEO)

-GM PCM Tuning (HP Tuners)
-Ford PCM Tuning (Sniper Tuning)
-Dodge PCM tuning (coming soon)

Along with tuning, I do custom wiring, swaps and maintenance. Most of my work in swaps has been with Subarus. I was the 2nd person in the country to document a 6 Speed swap into a Legacy GT.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me at MathewCater@555Motorsports.net or my phone at 224-622-4037

Also my site is 555 Motorsports (http://www.555Motorsports.net) it's still under going some changes, as I'm expanding my tuning solutions and such, but you can see more of what I do on there.

It's CROME, not Chrome

And do you have a dyno?

Welcome... feel free to hit me up with any Honda tuning related stuff if you ever need to. Ive been messing with Honda rom editors almost since they popped onto the scene.

I'm taking a long break from wrenching but i sure do miss tuning.

good luck!

Thanks, my honda tuning has been pretty limited as i've been more focused on Subarus and other cars, but I look forward to getting more into it doing stuff in Spokane.

I didn't end up finding a building yet, I actually decided to hold off on a facility of my own, since i'm doing quite a bit of tuning in other states. I've been going to Chicago quite a bit. As far as maintenance and tuning, if you contact me I have a few shops that I work out of depending on scheduling and such. So that is why I don't have an address listed.

Shows you how much I've used that..haha, but seriously I've messed with more Hondata than Crome, I have deal with a western Washington shop on getting Hondata related items.

I don't have a dyno, like I said I've been doing a lot of traveling, so road tuning has been the choice way. It's much better for dialing in the car, and have true load, but I would like to get a dyno, just don't know what the next year holds, so I don't think it'd be smart to set-up full shop, if I end up going out of town on business that much.

So if our car breaks because of the tune, we get hold of you..... how?

There would be no issues getting a hold of me, I do have a mailing address on the air force base as I am active duty military as well. I understand your concerns on that and I am working on a permanent location whether my own shop or. Continuing with the shop I'm working with now, and then the other option of pairing up with another local shop.

Regardless of the in between status I am probably one of the easiest people to get in contact with. You can ask any of my many customers about that one.

After doing some research and playing around with both programs, I chose to change my choice for OBDI honda tuning over to NepTune. I just purchased the dealer / tuning license today.

Good call...Hondata is also good but they are a bunch of homos so good call on the Neptune.

Having used both systems, and actually using Uberdata/Crome for most of my EFI "career" (lol)... I got to say that Crome is great for the hobbyist, but when time is money, all bets are on Neptune.

I know, Crome looks like a better investment but there are too many things that don't work like its supposed to.

Why not become a Neptune dealer and tune with that??

EDIT: reading owns me!

Exactly, I tried using Crome for a while, and until recently hadn't explored the NepTune option. I was doing quite a bit of research yesterday on some other things and came across some good information on NepTune, namely how I could actually get ahold of JR, the creator of NepTune. I got talking to him and set-up the dealer / tuning account, and i'm liking NepTune so much more. Its not as flashy and there are a lot of little things I like in the set-up of it.

Sweet, i'm sure you'll enjoy playing with neptune, i hear they are doing all kinds of really cool stuff on the next version soon to be released.

Ive been playing with Neptune since it was first released, feel free to hollar if you ever get stuck.

One issue I could never figure out with Neptune is how to keep my car from dying when clutching in too fast from a higher RPM and having a Fidanza flywheel.

The guy who created Neptune told me there is nothing I can do because of the flywheel but its a problem I never had with CROME. The Fidanza is only 7.5 lbs but I wonder if I had like a 9lb one if it would have caused the same problems.

I tried every trick in the book, even bumped up timing in the idle colums to like 23* and it would still die on me.

I got really good at popping the clutch and starting the car back up after it died though.

I would venture to say it's a scaling and idle issue, and if you bump the idle up slightly it should catch itself, along with doing a few other things. I haven't looked into the decel setting capabilities yet, but if there is something good for that you should be able to solve that problem fairly easily. That is a common problem with big turbo, big MAF subarus that don't have tgv deletes. That's the solution i've found that was corrected by some careful adjustments. I'm sure it would be something different as there are different ways of metering air, but the same principal should apply in some aspect.

If you are having that problem when the revs fall off fast its pretty much killing itself due to lack of fuel, not so much lack of timing. That's just my thoughts based on experience. I'd wouldn't mind taking a look at it with NepTune and seeing what it can really do with a car that has an issue such as that.

fuel cut adjustments! it took me awhile to figure out what worked best for my setup.

Do Crome and NepTune not have a high-idle wait time function?

555 Motorsports
03-11-2008, 11:02 AM
idle based on coolant temp, yes

BlackMagic

Not a start up high idle.

AEM uses allows for adjustment of a high idle wait time within the decel parameters. This function holds idle at an RPM for a user specified amount of time in seconds.

Using this function (correctly) eliminates the chance for the engine stall on decel. It works the same way that factory ECU's control idle on decel.

yes, its all under the "fuel cut" menu for Neptune.

I was going to mention something about decel setting, and the fact that I didn't see it when I was playing around with NepTune

There are three parameters to the fuel cut setting, RPMs, Load, and a fuel cut "slider" tool.

Hey Matt, I'm using dsmlink on my new project and will need a pump gas tune and a race gas tune once the motor is broke in.

I tried every fuel cut setting on the slider from the left to the right, every value, etc. I tried everything idle related, I tried up to 1300 RPM idle, didn't help jack shit.

I don't know man... every car is gonna require a different setting.

Guess what? Over the winter my brother dropped my old setup into his hatch... well, last week he noticed that the clutch was feeling like it was slipping or something weird (9-10K miles on LSD motorsports clutch), he dropped the tranny and found the pressure plate cracked! The flywheel and PP was glazed to shit and had about a million hairline cracks. Several of the PP bolts where halfway backed out... sound familiar??? lol... Its possible i forgot to tourqe'em down. ooPs!

now i kind of wish i didn't give it away...

Sounds good, just let me know when your ready, I believe I still have your #. I can give you a call later this week. I just got back into town from a tuning trip to Chicago, so this is the first time i've been on the site in like a week or more.
