Someone noticed last night that when I launched only one tire was spinning. I have a GT and know that on a GT both tires should have been spinning. I asked him where he was located at to make sure he had a good view and apparently he was in a good spot to notice it.
Question: My GT is stock. Never been in an accident (have the CarFax report). So, is it possible that my GT doesn't have the true GT rear end? Could someone explain this to me? Thanks.

just having clean carfax report doesnt mean car never had any body/mechanical damage, just be aware of that.

Your posi is just burned out, needs a rebuild of the clutches/steels. Normal stuff.

Easy rebuild, Ben is right. In fact, take it to Ben for the rebuild, he does great work.
PS All GTs that I know of have Posi-Trac

I just meant if it was wrecked in the back end or something....
was under the impression that the gts come stock with a limited slip that's what my 98 has!

limited slip diff and positrac are the same thing. just 2 different names for it
Correct me if I'm wrong then but both tires will not spin until you hit a cretin R.P.M. That's what it was made for ! so you don't sit and spin both tires coming out of the hole you hook up and go! you might fry one tire till ya hit like 3 grand or so that's they way my 98 dose it wont spin both un less I launch at like 3000 or 3500 and above anything under one tire fryer :(

lol, well that is the goal, to hook up and go. But it's better to spin your tires a little on the launch then to bog down.

FNSR, your rearend needs a clutch rebuild as well. Anytime that rearend spins one tire and not the other it should engage the posi under load.

I'm sure it dose I'm curently rebulding the top end of the motor now though it will have to wait for the 9 inch lol

The rearend in your call can be built for cheaper to hold up to just about anything you can through at it. I ran 10s on my stock rearend.

So, you are saying that what my car did was probably normal and nothing is wrong with it? I only did 2500 rpms the first time and figured that was too much so i lowered it the 2nd time.

I am saying your worn out posi is normal for a car with miles, thats all. There is tricks that you can do so it locks up a little better.

I just got confused with what FNSR was saying...

That's because fnsr is wrong about the rpm thing. The posi unit activates when you step on the gas. That's the simplified version. Whether or not the posi unit will be able to overcome the traction difference between the two rear tires when one starts to spin , is the question. In your particular case I would say that the posi is in need of rebuilding. If you had a car with lots of power and slicks , and had only one tire in water , the posi unit could still be in good condition, just not be strong enough to overcome the power applied to it.

Got it! I highly doubt I'll be getting it fixed....I'm either going to get rid of the car next year or trade it in for a different Mustang more than likely..
