What motor do you have? What all do you have done to the car?
My friend has a really nice 86 but he lives in Bellevue.

I'm the only Toyota guy here really...lucky bastard I've been trying to get my hands on Hachi Roku but I'm picky so its ok :P

My wifes car is a AE92 in Geo Prizm trim ( :( ) with a Silvertop 20valve....that at the moment doesn't run right, bad plug wires that hopefully will get here today but prolly monday.

You need help, advice, whatnot go ahead and ask....i'm a Toyota Tech at Parker

I've worked on most toyotas out there and i like to think i know enough of all the models...but most my knowledge does lie within the 4A engines and the Corolla lineup at least from ae86 on

What's a Toyota?

I too am "The only Toyota Guy on here..."
Though I really only play with Supras and their inline 6 hotness.

My complete waste of money car was a 1979 280ZX GL...
the corolla is the opposite of my Buick. which gets 5mpg in town

I'm sorry Brandon...I forgot about you....ouch :p

So I tried to pickup a Cressida...but the guy wanted 1700 and I offered 300.....perfect candidate for a 1jzgte sleeper...was thinking of the VVT-i 1JZ

Auto-x in a car with a third-of-a-million miles on it? You'll have to replace everything all at once.

...he just needs to do all the bushings...or just start the suspension upgrades now.

But being an SR5 i'd say ditch the single over carbd boat anchor for at least a high comp 4age :D

Then go out and find yourself a GT-S LSD rearend WITH the disc brakes cause those brackets are really hard to find and toyota doesn't have a part number for them (been there done that)

Just keep in mind that a good AE86 track car isn't all that nice on the street

I don't make that kinda of money & if I do a GTSr5 swap I will ruin a perfectly stock POS from the eighties... I can sell it for more if its not modded...I do have some suspension stuff for it but thats a few years away I will drive it as is until I get bored...

If you are wanting to do auto-x, it sounds like you are already bored :)

Your car currently has a negative ACV (actual cash value), in anything like an NADA or Kelly's Blue book. The $2000 "hit" for miles, brings it from a $100 car, down well below that. If you were to trade it in, on something else, at a dealership, they would strongly encourage you NOT to do that.

Seriously.

What I am saying is that you cannot "hurt" the value of this vehicle. If you gave it a really nice $800 paintjob and $600 refit to the interior, you could conceivably sell it for as much as $500.

Otherwise, your best bet is to head to Pull-n-Save and find a really good, moddable engine and put that in the car to use it for drag racing. A basic Ford 302 or Chevy 305 (+tranny and shaft and new front springs) would be really cool in there, with a nitrous kit. You'd be looking at about $600-800 in parts and you and your friend's own labor to put a monstrous amout of power into a very lightweight car. Autocross would be out of the question, probably, but you'd have the most fun car you ever drove. And you'd be telling your kids about it when you build their POS into a drag car, 20 years from now. Buy a flux-core wire feed welder from Harbor Freight and a chop saw. You'll need it. Practice is cheap and fun. Now you can build your own motor mounts and chassis stiffeners and whatnot.

I would say get a stick welder because the welds can be far superior to wire feed (try welding with wirefeed overhead) but it'll take you forever to get it down, without lessons and wirefeed will be easier for sheet metal.

I never put a V8 in my 280ZX, I sure as heck am not going to put one in a corolla... your point is valid but I autocross for fun I don't care about winning, I never won an event while I was in the Tri-Cities, but I raced regardless... heavy @$$ Z car with less than 100hp it was all corners at that point. the corolla will either receive a carb+cam+header on a 4ac, or a hi-comp carb+cams+header 4age. I have a new bushing kit, I have ss brake lines & a clutch line, I am getting a few more parts together so I will be ready for next year. Yes I know the engine is tired it will not turn over 4500 rpm at any point in the day so I have some work ahead... wish me luck

My 240Z had 151hp stock! How did it drop so much? Carb problems? Or were they f.i. by then? Of course, to me all the ZXs looked like station wagons with that extra seat. Certainly useful but... It was like that Jaguar XKE 2+2 monstrosity. With the three one barrel carbs, my 240 was a tuning nightmare. Pop the hood and it just laughs at you.

2.8l EFI factory rating in 79 was 130hp... my zx was not a 2+2

Weren't those 280Z's? I thought the X was for the 2 Xtra seats.

I think you're wrong about the value of a Corolla. as a stock SR5 i'd say value is probably $500....a good GT-S conversion all the way around you can probably ask for $1000 and sell it that day....and it doesn't cost all that much to work on these cars. If you do all your own work anyhow

Edmunds.com appraises the value of an average quality 1986 Toyota Corolla SR-5 model, as "N/A"

How much can you get for a car whose value is "not applicable"?

"not much" :2cents:

In seattle however you would be surprised... but being as I am here in Spokane I don't have much to worry about.
