I have seen a few people on the site who've done mini-me's and I'm curious. I've looked around but havent found the answer. I have a y7 in the car (97 sedan) and i have a y8 in my garage i want to throw on it. If i dont get the ECU right off could I still run the car with the y8 head on the stock ECU without vtec? The things i'm worried about right off the bat is the oil squirter plug (i think thats right) that you pull out of the block.

yes, pull the oil jet out of the block.

I'm sure you could start the car and run it with a non-vtak ecu, but it prob won't run the best.

y7 doesn't have a restrictor in the block, thats only the 88-95 non vtec blocks. y7 oil restrictor is in the head, so no worries about removing anything.

heres a stupid question again. I know the y8 intake mani flow better from what the forums say, and every writup for a mini-me has a y8 intake. is it possible to just keep the y7 (and loose some power understandably) or is it that the vtec uses a little bigger fuel injectors?

And different timing and different cam. Very cool beans.

YouTube - How VTEC works

The Mustang has this too but it's called VCT Variable Cam and Timing. Only it's VTEC on a 4.6 liter engine. W00t!!!

um.. jetblack? what were you trying to say? yes.. the y8 head is vtec thats why i bought it. i'm just trying to save cost where i can. as i understand it so far, i can keep everything except i have to get a timing belt for the y8 and a y8 waterpump (i think, it was something to do with something like that i'll have to look again) and the vtec ecu (unless i put it to an rpm switch, which i'd reather not do)

JetBlack,

Your car don't have the "V-Tec" sticker though. LoL...

I can change that, baby! We have a direct link to a vinyl guy, now. I can go "Type R" anytime I want!
