You would need a fuel injection-compatible fuel pump, some sort of computer controller, possibly a new intake manifold unless there is a throttle body that would bolt right to the existing carb mount.

It's more than I would attempt on a non-GM vehicle. I think the old Firebirds and Camaros were not too difficult, just very expensive, to swap.

Are you doing this for fuel economy reasons? Figure if it cost you $800 to do it; how long would it take you to save back that money, making 15-20% better fuel economy? How long, in years, I mean.

You'd probably also get more power, which is cool.

Try cleaning the carb, removing the belt from the AC unit, the B2000 may have had headers, from the factory, but I don't remember, but ditch your restrictive muffler and replace with a suitable pipe, get new catalytic converters because after about 100,000 miles, they are often pretty plugged. If you can run it without the power steering, without blowing off the cap, every time you make a turn, try running it with a shorter fan belt, that bypasses the PS pulley (you wouldn't believe how much power a hydraulic pump pulls off the engine). Get lighter, narrower aluminum rims and skinnier tires. Cold air intakes make a big difference too but for gas mileage it's hard to drop $200 on something that will save you less than that in a year. That's all assuming anyone makes a CAI for the 1986 B2000.

Those mods are fairly easy and inexpensive, DIY mods that will save you a lot in mileage, if you can keep your foot off the gas pedal.

With my luck, you just wanted to race it and don't care about any of what I wrote.

Did the B2000 come with a fuel injected model with the same engine? If so, its a pretty easy transition. You just need to swap the engine, build a fuel system, and figure out the EFI controller (might be able to just swap the harness)

If there were no injected models it is a bit more difficult, but still doable. You may have to build an intake manifold and find a throttle body, build the EFI fuel system, and wire in a stand alone fuel management unit.
