I wonder if the type of tires makes a difference? For example if its just the oem style tires that are most affected by the long shelf periods, or would big off-road tires and the low pro's be similarly affected. Also number of plys in the tire and load rating. There are thousands of different tires and i wonder if they are fabricated exactly the same. Speed rating would obviously be another factor. One thing I know is I have always had big aftermarket tires on my rigs and have never gotten a flat or had problems with the big mud style lugs....Mickey Thompson, Super Swampers, and now Toyo's.
Lets be realistic...You guys all run high performance tires, and have you guys had any problems at all with them?......
I think the media just likes to oversensationalize things when they need ratings. Were getting all worked up (or 60 minutes is) over how old the tires are when we buy them and I'll bet that reporter talks on his cell all the time while he's driving around catching "child internet predators"... lol And thats way more dangerous than even drunk driving. I'm still gonna go check how old my stuff is though......Damn you 60 minutes!!!:p

Who keeps inventory for 17 years? On a car lot, if you don't sell a car the first month, it comes up in a meeting about why that car is still here. If you had a case of peas in your supermarket for 17 years, they might still be good but why the hell have they not been put on sale and freaking sold? That shit is taking up the space a sellable product could be using, productively.
Short story? Don't buy safety related things at Wal-Mart. Tires, ammo, baby food, flare guns, etc..
The BFG's I want are always backordered. There had better not be any BF Goodrich KDWS in 275/50-17 out there, that are 15 years old and I can't get them.
And I want RWL tires. Bring them back!!!! Retro baby. Rant over.

This kinda what I was saying, (jumping on bandwagon) The good stuff doesn't sit long. That is funny now that you mention it. And thinking back, my wife is always giving me crap for always buying the blinged out top of the line thats more expensive and more of a hastle to get a hold of. That'll show her.....(Don't let her read this!)......(Jumping off bandwagon with chest puffed out.)
