View Full Version : Nitrous
I'm wanting to set up a nitrous setup on my 96 a4 2.8 v6. I'm curious what you need to do to the car so it doesnt detonate? timing, tuning the ecu, etc?
I'm not really a nitrous person as you can tell, but its the only mod left for this car besides a supercharger.
I know the ecu in my car is not tunable.. so i'm hoping thats not an issue.. It seems to me that if you get a wet system (nitrous and fuel i belive) that you wouldnt really have to do anything to the existing systems as its adding the additional fuel needed..

You would need to adjust the timing during the nitrous cycle. Also one or two stage, colder plugs with a smaller gap. You should be able to chip it, if you can't change the tune, which is surprising.
Yeah, performance chips for Audis are like $10-20. Who knows if there are any nitrous chips though?

How much nitrous you plan to use will determine your answers. 50hp? 300hp?? I personally like the kick a 400hp tune gives, but thats just me.:p

the ZEX nitrous kit is really a great little starter kit and with the right tune and colder plug you will not need to retard the timing, probably a 50 - 75 shot would be nice and not require any PCM tuning.
Call me if i can help you in any way.

you like a kick that still makes more power than most of us without NOS...maybe even a few with :|
Like Greg said, what you go with determines what you need. Can you manually change your igniton timing?

Those are really nice...i almost bought it last spring but not knowing what the track was doing....
Really easy setup and all contained in one unit. IMO perfect for little bump

Zex is a good starter kit for small shots. They are pretty easy to install. I wouldent go over a 75 shot. Once you go to a 100 shot I would say take out about 2-3 degrees of timming.
well on the audi forums, i was told that you cant tune the ecu's for the 12V 2.8 v6, only the 30 valve motors, thats why you cant do many mods on them. I'm thinking of a wet shot 55.. because they also said it'd be prety safe running 55-possibly 75.

I know at 100 shot you should take some timming out, so it dosent knock. If you go one degree colder on the plugs you should be fine. I will say tho, if your going to run the bottle, turbo, supercharger you NEEEEEED a Wideband Airfuel. So you know your not going lean. That way you can adjust your shot. Also do you know your Fuel Pres on that car?
