86 Mustang GT, auto with t-tops

I have a chance tp pick one up at a decent price, I just wanted the general idea of how these cars are, my mom used to have a 86, v6 mustang hatch but it was a pig, is the GT of this year worth a turd as a daily driver or am I just wasting my money? I may use it for autocross once in a while but how strong is that auto trans?

tranny's are not very strong stock, depending on what your doing you should swap that tranny if you want any kind of an autocross car.

In the mid-80's Ford was making some changes to quality so it's a bit of a crapshoot. I think "Quality is Job 1" was right then. QC was really job #68 or so. Somewhere after "appeasing the union" and "keeping the lights on" and "paying big bonuses"
