In winter, I wear insulated coveralls and they keep me toasty, even on frozen concrete and they are sorta padded so you don't get uncomfortable.
Harbor Freight has good torpedo kerosene heaters. Those things make insane heat... and noise.

Check CraigsList ( spokane / coeur d'alene tools classifieds - craigslist (http://spokane.craigslist.org/tls) )...I see them listed on there all the time...

Yeah, and obviously diesel isn't too cheap either... I'd look into a waste oil burner if I were you...Might cost you a bit more but it'd be worth it.

Yeah, we use a propane one. Nothin like the sound of a jetfighter in the garage... Makes the neighbors wonder...

How big is your garage?

Last time I got kerosene at Home Depot, it was on sale for $10 a gallon.
If you can get jet fuel, that's the same stuff. Back when gas was $2 a gallon, we sold it at the airport, to the plane companies, for $0.60 a gallon. Gotta love taxes, because we made a profit on that price!

Got natural gas available in the garage?
If so, I can attest that this thing works awesome.
I have it in a spacious 3 car garage (insulated) without blower and it keeps the whole thing at ~43 when set to just below the 1 setting (lowest).

I ran natural gas out to the shop and bought an old gas furnace. Now I am toasty and warm. Now all I need is some ducting and I will really be a happy camper. My shop is only 30x40 and insulated so it did not take a very big furnace.

no my shop is 40x40 i think. the big door is insulated and the roof is too but not the walls. I'm borrowing a 150,000 one right now and when it snowed last week it made it pretty hot in there. the people I'm borrowing it from need it back i guess so i think i found a nice propane one i might pick up. i just wanted a diesel one because i love the smell of diesel.
