My daily driver is getting a make over. I had been looking for a silver VR6 Corrado when this guy popped up in the wheel deals last year. I got an incredible deal on it and have been using it as a DD ever since.

It had some misfire issues when I bought it, but it ran fine for a DD so I didnt worry too much at the time. Anyway, I decided it was time for a little work. Plans for the winter include a cylinder head rebuild with mild port work and a set of 268 deg cams from Eurosport. I will also be building either a short runner aluminum intake manifold or doing the euro modification to the stock manifold. A nice clean body kit with front/rear bumpers and side skirts and some flat black factory VW wheels. Im also going to smoke the tail lights, corner markers and turn signals.

This should make the car fun to drive until I decide to build a turbo kit for it.

Below are some pictures of the car when I bought it and some pics of what I found when I removed the cylinder head...no wonder it wasnt running right.
Updates to come...

I know imports are hard to work on but didn't know you had to take off entire front end off of one of those to work on engine. This is almost as bad as 300zx's

lol, the Corrado doesnt have much room in the front, but 4 bolts and 10 screws are all you need to take the front end off. It just makes this much easier.

What was allowing so much oil to get in that cylinder? Valve guides? Rings? Almost looks like a head gasket from all the oil on the block around that cylinder.

The way the cylinders are arranged is pretty cool, I never knew it was setup like that. I always thought VR6's were some of the best sounding 6 cylinders, along with the VQ35.

Yeah, the stock tone of the VQ cars is decent, but Id still take the sound of an inline 6 at high rpms anyday...

It looks like there were some head gasket issues and there are valve seal issues for sure. On decel the car smokes like crazy.

UPDATE:

Head is at the shiop getting a little refurbish job. I did a little match port on the intake and exhaust. The gasket was almost .250 diameter larger than the port! I also picked up a set of 268 duration street/strip cams for to put back in. Here are some pics of the head work.

So what are you expecting to get out of this thing? HP and E.T. wise.
