Thanks for all the offers guys. Tonight I ended up biting the bullet and just doin it in mah shop. *of course with like 2 shop lights on me & a little heater going full bore, plus an already warm car. Wasnt bad at all.

I spent more time removing all the factory shrouding/airbox/foam core than I did actually installing the intake.
I like how it actually puts the filter down behind one of the ducts.

Under normal load and under 3k the car sounds 100% stock, just slightly louder. Anything over 3k and it starts getting really throaty. WOT ~5k sounds amazing now.

Im happy now, at least for another month or two...

No seriously...8000k is imo, retarded. It's purple to begin with, so would you like a rainbow sticker for your windshield? And not only that, you lose actual light loss. 6000k is the max you should use imo.

Ninja_Bear
01-31-2009, 05:20 PM
Hate it as you may... I despise the dim-as-fuck factory amber highbeams I have currently. I realize Im losing light at 8000 (but thats when you compare them to 4000k bulbs). The ones I have are so dim right now, anything will be an improvement. Sorry Im not doing my car to your standards?

Hit the nail on the head... I just see too many "ricers" out there with 8k and 10k HIDs blinding the shit out of people and massive purple coloring from the front of their cars. I prefer 6000k, still has a hint of white but has a small blueish tint to it.

Keep the G Clean yo! It's a classy car...

jrhaile
02-01-2009, 10:09 AM
Oh and hey, check out DDMTUNING.com for HIDs. Super cheap. I've installed probably 6-7 pairs in different cars including my own with ZERO problems. Shipping is kind of slow (2-3 weeks) but worth it for a set of HIDs with lifetime warranty for $75 bucks...

Yeah I might hit em up next time. Not the first time someone's recommended them to me so I might have to check that out. Now Im just trying to figure out what route Im gonna go for bodywork stuff. Car has stress cracks in the paint on the front and rear bumpers along the bottom so Im really debating just kitting the car. Im leaning pretty hard on replacing em with "Top Secret" parts just because I love the front end. kenstyle makes a pretty unique rear for these cars too. Either way, that's the next thing on my list.

Bullshit... then why are you adding engine/performance mods? I smell a liar. :D

What's the treadwear on those? I just picked up 4 Dunlop Z1s for 950 mounted and balanced. By far the best "street" tire for AutoX and other track events.

now that ive actually taken 30 minutes to read the whole thread. lol. okay, imo when you mentioned top secret earlier i was omg sweet it has to look good after that. Now brandon, remember back to your honda days, remember what an ek civic looks like? 96-2000 civic that front bumper looks like your g35 ate a civic up and the civic is trying to crawl back out of its mouth. I dont agree with the front end, dont like the greddy one either due to the front core support being shown, if your not going to have a massive front mount there.... ??? I think save your money, keep her clean, and "stock" and lets see a mild supercharger build? ROTREX!!! Nothing too crazy, with upgrading your gears for some top end speed? As well as your suspension all the way around;

That way its not like the time i saw a nice red supra hauling ass on sprague early on in the a.m. and leaving me wondering (as the cop with its lights on drove by chasing it :0) if i could catch you and pass you with some top end left over. :) upgrade your rear end as well.

p.s. what does a widebody kit look like on this? say a 2.5 inch-3 inch?

p.s. i like that "rhino" license plated silver g35's exhaust, hes in the valley somewhere, and man, you should hear it, its sick!!! its made me wish i had one, im not usually that way...

Thanks Jaime. Yeah, I fully agree with you an ride characteristics. They are a bit firm/evil-when-you-hit-potholes for driving around, but the couple times I have thrown her around turns, the car straight up LOVES it. The suspension geometry in these cars is already amazing when it comes to eliminating squat and dive, but the springs made even more of an improvement. I can SLAM the brakes at 50+ with no dive, I love it.

5psi with a super conservative base tune... Theres quite a bit of room to play with the timing and fuel right now, even at 5psi, but Im in the process of hunting down the rest of my fuel system to tune it once at 9psi. Thats where Ill start throwing some timing back at her.

Goal is to have the car feeling as balanced as it was NA... I already miss the responsiveness of my old setup. Nonetheless the car feels a lot better than before on the top end.

giving some credit where its due... as i drove the 350z that the turbo setup was originally in.

350z on 5 lbs made 400 WITHOUT a tune.
the 350z turbo setup was fabbed and put together at RTI. Because rti is more than just hondas.

the owner of the 350z ran out of money. So paul conservatively (<-- i think i spelled that right... its 2 am.) set the boost for the guy, being under the impression hed be back with engine management, however the guy that owned the 350z was pleased with it and left it the way it was before selling to max which later traded to andrew.

nice setup brandon. Just giving some credit due. As i have seen the underneath of the 350z and how much trouble paul went through to accomplish it.

Heck of a deal bud! Out of anyone to get that setup im most happy that it was u!

What are you waiting for?

Ninja_Bear
10-01-2010, 01:12 PM
Need more fuel...

The kit had a few issues going from a 6-speed to auto but I managed to make it fit via copious amounts of torch, plasma cutter, wirefeed, and "big-ass hammer."

The biggest downfalls to the setup when it was in the 350 were the lack of engine mgmt, a BOV that was stuck open, worm gear clamps on all the piping, and a 6 speed that simply couldnt load the engine like the auto can.

After replacing the BOV, the car still would go weak on me every few days of boosting hard because the worm gears would back off and Id leak like crazy. T-Bolted now, and she's lovin it. Just fixing little shit, Ive been able to lower my spool time to 22-2400rpm, hitting full boost (5psi) around 2700 and pulling pretty damn good to redline.

Im gonna have the car out for the Steptoe cruise, but thats about it. She's getting parked until the Spring. Fuel system and transmission mods this winter.

Ninja_Bear
10-01-2010, 01:22 PM

Sounds good man. It sounded like the announcer said he could hear the turbo in the red car? Didn't you say that was your turbo lol? Also did you have lots of wheel spin? Sounded like he said you went 14.xx at 106? Maybe I'm wrong but shouldn't you be low 13s or so at around 106? I couldn't tell if you were on street tires.

Ninja_Bear
10-06-2010, 09:43 PM
Yeah the rediculous amounts of spool was actually my (silver) car, the announcer thought it was from my buddies supra. I later found out that most of that noise was my greddy knock off stuck open.

That run was on my 19" deep dish Sterns lol, just stabbing it on green. Not really loading it up or building boost on launch. In the video I wasnt spinning, just lagging... bad.

Since that run, Ive had a lot of time to get a lot of the bugs worked out... Now it's just a matter of relearning the car. Even launching with 1-2lbs absolutely annihilates the tires, so I may be looking into a 16" Drag Radial setup.

Carnage
10-06-2010, 10:50 PM
If you want better ETs getting out of the hole and nailing a good 60ft will help a ton with that so yeah I would recommend a separate set of drag radials or slicks.

I am looking forward to racing next year. I have never raced at this track so it will be nice to not only race at a different track, be close to a track and race new people. Too bad the season is over, but that is ok maybe I can fit some more mods in I really want some Coilovers to help with my launch lol.

Tires - Toyo Proxes 255/35/19 up front, 275/35/19 rear

Bigger 24x12x4 Intercooler
I cut open the factory bumper and started getting an idea of how I want to foam/glass/fair it in to make it look legit.

oh... and she may or may not be on the drip now. (not to be confused with "having the drips"...) By drip, Im referring to a small 35shot.

Anyways, here are some pics:

35 shot is barely noticeable even on a turbo car.

100 shot is when it STARTS to get fun.

Yeah man VERY NICE! the car felt strong the last time I was in it so I cant wait to feel it now. I know you were going for the sleeper look but who cares with that beautiful front mount exposed now. Also I took the liberty of editing your user title :)

Not broken. The car still very much drives around and pulls just fine. But the clutch packs are slipping a little under full boost and full load.

David, could you describe the sounds you heard on Sprague in detail?

the clutch packs are slipping a little under full boost and full load.

I don't think the 5 psi of "full boost" is the issue, I think its the tubby bitches that are putting too much load on your autotragic manstrission. Get some skinnier bitches and you should be good to go.

Oh man, I almost cried when I read this. You been hippo hunting again Brandon? I know you like the pregnant ones too because their self-esteem is at an all time low and baby daddy is no where to be found. You're a baller, just build that tranny to hold a whole carload of buffet lovers...

Yes, that is so. Now he is running with the big boys now that he's part of the 1000 hp jack stand queen club with Erica and his DSM's. He's recently received his exclusive membership :riaa: ... :hide:

I like those Enkei RP03s I might have to pick some up for my G35 cuz I'm looking for a nice set of summer wheels. Is there is a reason you didn't go 19x9.5 +22 offset in the front or would they not fit?

Ninja_Bear
03-08-2011, 12:32 PM
I went with the setup I did because the whole set was for sale for 400 with tires. I can say the 9.5 +22's would be fine.

I really loved those wheels. They were so light. Ill probably get another set but in the sbc finish for my new car.

What g do you have?

2003 G35 6MT, Black leather, Brembos, Premium Package, pretty much everything but the wing. Picked it up from Boise, ID this weekend with 46k on the clock all stock. Needs a touch of tlc but otherwise its great :)

Wouldn't the 9.5 +22 offset wheels stick out closer to the fender? I was also thinking about the sbc finish as well, was wondering if it would look good with red, I also like the silver. Also you know anyone who did the bolt on turbonetics kit? 60-1 trim 8psi and they supposedly flash your ecu and its good for ~450hp. This is a DD for sure I most likely wont turbo it but you never know, I just don't want to take away from any street-ability.

Pics of when I picked it up last weekend:

NICE! Finally another G on here!

+18 will sit out wider/more aggressive than +22. I personally would recommend the +15 to +0 range (at least in the rear) for that fully stanced out look but to each their own.

Of the single turbo kits for these cars, I'm a big fan of the Turbonetics as far as ease of plumbing install goes. at 8psi on that kit you're looking closer to 375-400rwhp safely. The block and tranny will have no problem with that. The rods are the weak spot in these cars. By just a bottom end build, they're good to go to ~600. On a DD, I would say the turbonetics 60-1 setup would kick ass. Super responsive Ive driven a 350Z with it installed and they get full boost my like 2200rpm and pull pretty damn hard all the way to redline.

If you do go FI, instead of relying on a reflash, I would go with TurboXS UTEC. Especially if you have even basic tuning skills. You can usually pick em up for around 400 bucks but they're totally worth it. Direct control of injectors and timing, holds 5 maps, and has a bunch of extra controls like solenoids 'n shit. I would even recommend UTEC if you stay NA and just go BPU, guys are seeing dyno-proven gains of 30-45rwhp just from intake, exhaust, and retune. But def do some research on UTEC.

Drop that car a little and push the rims out WIDE. Its a crime if you don't. Ill have to hit you up next time we have a G/Z meet in Spokane. I'm crossing my fingers Ill have my new car up and running by this weekend.
