View Full Version : My other project.
Well sense the civic is parked due to things i dont even want to go into (previous owner) I was playing with the other project. My 85 suburban. There are way more capable rigs on here, much nicer etc. But this is my budget rig/ tow rig. Its a crate 350 with a 700r4 that has some problems. It is on stock suspension and 33" pro comp's.
Its getting new driveshaft u-joints up front, new drag link, fixed tilt colum, a transmission tune up, a t-case tune up, and maybe a nice carb. Pictures to come tomorow when i'm going to test the flex and departure angles for the next offroading adventure.
YES its getting a bedliner "paint job". All the rust is getting sanded off, and it will have certain things taped off, and some patch pannels welded in. Some like it, some dont. I really dont care. Its durable, easily touched up, and I just plain like it.

I just say that becuase you go from one problem to another. My truck is far from pretty.
This thing has been sitting around sense ben did my U-joints in the axle. I love it actually, it's never left me stranded, haul all the friends around, tow about anything, went wheeling with a buddy who messed up his starter on the jeep and had to tow him from the sand pit at 7 mile to the south hill with it. Pulled another suburban out of a snow pile that it high centered on and all 4 wheels were off the ground, pulled an f250 out of a ditch, etc. I love it. I'm going to actually keep the RHD as a surprise for the track, so you wont hear me talking about anything with it. Mostly just updates with the suburban and maybe a few teaser pictures.
If you dont like the direction i'm going with either cars, constuctive comments are AWESOME! but if your just going to nock it.. keep it to yourself untill you see the car in person.
I attached a photo of my old offroad suv. 92 explorer, 2 inch lift, 35's and had the same bedliner "paintjob" the suburban will have, i picked up the explorer bone stock, was going to do a gloss black paintjob on it and do a 5" longarm on it, but found 3" literally of bondo in the rear quarter, and found that on the back driver door it hit a pole or something and they replaced the door and bondo'd the roof where it bent, so i nocked out the bondo and put bedliner all over it because there was no way I wanted to pull all of that out etc. Cut the fenders to clear the 35's and it wheeled just fine, no problems at all.

Keep us updated on the project!! The bed liner paint jobs are different for sure but if all you do is plan on just driving it and some off roading then go for it! All that matters is you build it the way YOU want it! :)

I personally think a "bed liner" paint job is probably the best paint job you can get for going off road.
Asshole parks too close to you at the grocery store? Slam your door into their car before you leave...hahaha
I absolutely love it. If it was newer or nicer i'd probably never do the roll on, heck i'd probably never do it to something nicer, but the roll on goes good and protects well. I had a "friend" get pissed off and took a sledge to the explorer, no dent whatsoever in the truck and broke the handle of the 10lb slege :)
Here are some pictures of today's fun. I'm 5'10" and you can see how high it was up there. I also picked up the bedliner today probably get it all on there tomorow. Ignore all the white spray paint on it.. I grinded out all of the bubling up rust, and used some rustoleum that i had in the garage on it. It was 9pm and it was the only rig at the time so I didnt care that it was white.
