Pics tell the story. Not in the pics that are coming later are GM LS7 lifters which are direct replacements for my car, Innovate XD-16 wideband, and double roller timing set.
Cam specs are 220/230 @.050", .507/.507" lift, 112* lobe separation. In comparison, stock cam is 182/192 @.050", .40x" lift, and 115* lsa.
This cam is designed for non intercooled cars, and has lots of overlap to decrease boost and therefore hot air. I also hear it works great as a nitrous cam, but dont know if I will try that yet. Also has a WICKED idle!
Car goes under the knife tuesday, hope to have it done in about a week! Cant wait for dyno day!!!

Nope :D But damn that's a lot of work for 12s. All I'd have to do is change out my rear or less. Hell, I can do it now, I just can't drive. People have ran 12.8 with stock M5s. Shows how much I suck hahaha

ya but thats y a m5 costs alot more than a gtp... and if you think thats not that much for mods.. just headers, cam, and some head work..i like it.. you planning on some tires??

Correct.
Why not a smaller pulley as well?

Thanks. Stock heads other than springs and rockers, which dont really count. I could've kept the stock springs and rockers if I wanted to, but I wanted to be able to rev a little higher. The rockers are stock ratio, but they have the roller tip, which the stockers dont. And yes, some slicks or DR's, as well as bigger injectors are priorities.

Stock s/c (besides pulley) and throttle body, yes. Power should hopefully be somewhere around there.
Why not a smaller pulley as well?
I already have a pulley small enough now, that I have to use race gas to run. I'm hoping after this cam, I can run that pulley on pump gas. Then after I get bigger injectors, I can run an even smaller pulley, with race gas again.

I can attest Ryans GTP already blows the tires up at the slightest blip while rolling, camming that thing probably wont help lol

I plan on getting some slicks or dr's for my stock rims later. I do wanna see what it'll do on street tires though. Looks like I'll be practicing my launch techniques for a while :D.

02-10-2009, 10:48 PM
Thanks guys. As far as times, I dont know, probly high 12's on street tires and mid 12's on slicks. Still not that fast, but it should be fun. Its pretty good for these cars non I/C'd. They love to detonate even from the factory. Now I could really use a ported blower and bigger throttle body to take full advantage of the cam. That probly wont happen this year though. My plan for this year, hopefully before the track opens, is to get bigger injectors, and slicks, and hopefully get a good tune on it.

12's on street tires out of a FWD is pretty damn fast.
How wide of tires can you run up front?
SOMTA
02-11-2009, 10:29 AM
ryan would know better than me but I think the max size we can do on the gp's is a high 200/30 or so. with enough suspension work the take off pretty good with little wheel spin. fastest GTP cuts a better 60 foot than the fastest evo, unless the evo has gotten faster, haven't looked into it in a while.
Is even a guy down in cali that regularly out launches rwd cars and after his initial jump they give up. if they knew to go above 100 they could pull on him up top. With Ryans cam it should help out the weak spot on the cars, the top end.

Well its been a little slow going yesterday and today. I bought new LS1 style retainers for my LS6 valve springs, but they didnt fit right, so I put my stock retainers on the new springs, and thought all was well. I was wrong. It wouldve eventually broken some springs with that setup. So luckily, camp chevy had some GM LS style retainers, so I bought those and they worked. That was a half day set back right there, running all over town and re-changing the retainers. At least I caught it now, and not when a spring broke and sent a valve through a piston. The car would've been done today if it wasnt for that. It will be done for sure tomorrow.
Pic of stock retainer vs the bad ones I got. You can see the valve tip doesnt stick up at all. Obviously not right. Stock retainer would've eventually led to spring failure because of too low installed height.

Heres pics of the rest of the progress the last 2 days:
New rollmaster double roller vs stock:

Its kinda hard to see, but the rollmaster has one extra set of teeth and links:
http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r142/Ryfly05/100_0403.jpg
New cam and timing chain installed and timed:

Everything minus balancer installed:
http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r142/Ryfly05/100_0414.jpg
Everything installed, engine cradle bolted back up, and my new shiny rotor!
http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r142/Ryfly05/100_0421.jpg
After that is when I got the new retainers, and I forgot the camera when I came back. Car is currently back on the ground, and all that is left to do is the top side of the motor. No left over bolts yet either! :D It will definately be done tomorrow!!

:D<-- Thats been the look on my face all day! lol. Im running headers, no cat, and STOCK cat-back minus resonator. The power is great!! I lost about 3 lbs of boost, and it still pulls harder, especially up top! Cant wait to switch pulleys and get that boost back!

Now just pull the supercharger off and put a nice turbo on it. At the same boost, youll make waaaay more power. I really do like the GTPs. I want a 2 door. But i love how they sound with a turbo....kinda bpu supra-ish.

Well its too late to go turbo now lol. This cam would not work well with a turbo at all. Way too much overlap. I kinda like being s/c'd anyways. Dont really know why, since they dont make that great of power, but its just different I guess. You should get a GTP and turbo it! Then we can race! I think Andrew (somta) wants to turbo his later on.

Depending on how funds work out can buy the basic kit that ZZP sells.
The supercharger vs turbo is kind of funny on the cars. The turbo will make more hp but run the same times as a supercharged gtp with a set up like Ryans with a few less ponies. Either way you can't really go wrong with how you mod it. I guess with a really beefed up supercharged system they tend to eat the trannies about once a year. :(
