Looks like I get to take the damn trans out for a 3rd time.

Cracked the damn flywheel last night. Scared the crap out of me at first, started making a loud tapping sound. Thought I had spun a rod bearing or something, especially since it was louder under the car. So now I get to remove the trans for a 3rd time to replace it with a billet one. Yay!

+1. And when you swap it with an aluminum one [YAY!] you get more power to the wheels and faster revs and you can be in compliance with the NHRA regs for cars faster than 11.99, which hopefully you will be soon.

Yeah, its SFI certified, but its actually 1 lb heavier than a stock one. And it costs an arm & leg to boot! :mad:

Actually after looking up the specs again, its billet 4340 steel not aluminum, which would explain the extra weight. At least it for sure wont happen again!

Finally got my parts today. Now I know why it was so expensive. Its made of pure gold!! I also got another s/c pulley. Should give me another pound or so of boost.

No, its actually about 1 lb heavier which sucks, but theres nothing else out there except another stock one.

so your gtp is an auto? not to be picky but you said your flywheel cracked.. but you bought a flex plate.. flywheel=manual and flex plate=auto. i actually did learn while in class :D

Unfortunately, every GTP ever made is an auto. Flywheel is just easier to say.

I got the old flexplate off today, looks like I was lucky it didnt explode on me!

didnt mean to sound like a dick about it, it just confused me. it's a sick freakin pontiac for sure! Couldnt you find a manual trans to bolt up to the motor thats in it and convert it if you really wanted to?

There are trannies out there that could be hooked up, but would be shredded after a few wot shifts. Fiero guys can get by on a stock five speed with a 3.8 Supercharged but the second they throw the basic mods at it they turn into grenades.

Besides, there is a saying that goes something like, Manuals are for high school showoffs, Autos win drag races. :)

I finally got 'er done. What a bitch. You'd think after r&r ing the trans 3 times, it would get easier. NOT. Seems like each of the 3 times has gotten harder. Damn bitch. Ok thats outta my system, I'm happy now! :)

As far as autos, ya they are kind of boring i guess, but at least mine snaps your neck when it does shift, unlike stock trannys. Plus they are waaay easier to launch off the line when racing.
