my cousin has offered his '87 buick grand national up for my 2001 camaro...would this be a good trade?? getting mixed reviews from close friends relatives..
Camaro has lots of goodies on it, 34k miles runs 11's and made 433rwhp 409tq N/A.. but does have a >>rebuilt title..
Grand national has some aftermarket stuff, ems stinger4 engine managment system, 4-point roll bar, dyno 328rwhp 366tq clear title, buick registry...
please give your opinion, i know the title on the camaro will hurt the value but with all the parts, condition, and mileage it's still worth pretty good money..

GN's will only increase in price. Fbods, i don't think they will. Plus GN's are much harder to come by. My head turns to a GN, not usually to a typical Fbod. I'd do it in a heartbeat. You can always pickup another Camaro.

yes, kirk installed theEMS stinger4 system for him.. the car is real nice except for the factory paint is starting to flake a bit.... and the value is another concern, grand nationals are spendy---if you even find one for sale.

If you wanted to flip it for a quick buck sure. I have heard GN's are relatively easy to hit 11's or even 10's but much beyond that point crap gets spendy. Than there are just normal repairs in itself. Everything you would have to replace would either be crappy stock spec that already broke once or pay out the ass aftermarket.
Respectable cars, I wouldn't mind ever owning one and they do turn heads but from a repair/mod standpoint the Camaro will probably out do the GN and not burning a giant hole in your wallet.
For the rebuilt title on the Camaro, if you never plan on selling it, I wouldn't let it bother you. If you do plan to get rid of it and change toys frequently though it is a trade benefiting you more so than the other person.

Camaros are dime a dozen. A GN is one of the greatest cars to come out of America....I would get rid of a salvage title Camaro all day every day for a GN.

You can always come across another CLEAN TITLE Fbody.
Clean GN's are harder and harder to come by.

God is Great, the National is Grand. I think it's the closest thing to heaven, here on Earth.
If anyone asks, just tell them God told you to do it. And who are you to question God?

THIS IS A TOUGH ONE!!!!! , i know from a (future) money standpoint the gn is the better choice.. from a (performance) standpoint the camaro wins handsdown.. both are nice drivers, both have all power options, a/c, and such..but the problem with the dime a dozen camaro theory is that this camaro literally has $10k in aftermarket parts on it..(will do a parts breakdown for the doubters) and that is something i can't duplicate.. i guess the issue here is, i need to decide if i still want to have 1/4 mile fun , or just be happy cruizing...

honestly, is a g/n worth more or less if it's set up as a purpose vehicle??? i would think the value of the g/n would stay as is or be less if it's altered to a pro-street state.. what do you guy's think.. and how reliable is a 3.8 putting down 500+ to the tires?? it's once again unfamiliar territory with me.,.,.

IIRC I remember reading the fastest stock bottom 3.8 GN went low 10's, but shortly the motor went. When you get to low 11's people usually beef up the block last I remember. Only reason I know is because when ZZP took their Grand Prix with the 3.8 into the 9's it was on a stock bottom, and even in the 8's I believe it is and it pushing close to 700 WHP IIRC.
As for modding a car it all depends imo. If I bought a modded car I would want it to be setup close or exactly how I would want it if I started with it. For some the fun is starting with a clean slate and modding it to how they like, but there are some people that would focus just on how fast a car could go and could care less if corners are cut or the car is painted hot pink.

No actually the Camaro loses hands down to the GN from a performance standpoint too.
MAYBE if it was a C5/C6 you could argue handling....but straight line performance a GN is just about the best car in the world for that.

have you ever driven a g/n?? other than 16' wheels and some stiffer springs it's a damn buick regal man, how do you compare performance of a g-body to an f-body?? i've never heard anyone say that a 3600# square body car is the best strait line performance car in he world thats a first...they are cool cars but performance in 1987??? corvettes sucked in 1987 there was no technology in 1987... i know they can be built to run, but if i build a 10sec grand national what kind of market is there for it???? i would think that a stock g/n would be easier to sell than one that is built, no matter how tastefully done. this is my dilema, i still want to go fast, and have fun.. now granted his g/n will prob dip into the 12's fairly easy but i know my camaro can go out opening day and run well into the 10's if i wanted to... and reaching 10's in a g/n is a pretty good chunk of money...

also consider your going from 2001 to what 87.. I personally would call it a downgrade even though i've done it plenty of times. You'll miss the camaro's mods and end up spending tons of money getting the g/n to where the camaro is and you wont be happy because you've already been there and you'll want to go faster which is again, more money. the money to get the g/n to where the camaro is currently you could have an amazing camaro.

Thats why the G/N is the fastest production car in for that era. Its not just springs eather, The G/N has a different built Tranny than the other, Different brake set up, engine had some other stuff done to it. I would own one WAY before any f-body

Lol! you just made my day reading this!!!! LMFAO!!!! Its takes VERY little if you know what your doing to get a GN into flat 11's. Look up a blue book of a 01 Camaro even with a good title, and then a 87 GN.

Not saying that he needs to keep the camaro but keep in mind it takes very little to get a LS1 f-body to 11 flat as well. I had maybe 3k into my WS6 when it ran 11.07 @ 131. LS1's are an easy motor to make alot of power out of and Mark if you want a car thats going to be fast and be worth alot of money down the road trade for the GN if you want a car that moved out before the intake and dp I traded/sold you and will probably easily run mid 10's with a 150 shot and that intake and then drive home with the A/C on and get 20+ miles to the gallon keep the camaro. I might lean toward the GN just because of its value and you can find a clean titled Z28 for cheap anymore

Point being you have 14 years of extra abuse on a turbo car.. and ive never riden in or driven one but i'd imagine the camaro is more comfortable.

i looked up the book values, camaro high is same as g/n low, but tell me why the the g/n has a 10% deduct for v-6????? anyway its all up to my cousin now we'll see how it goes from here. it will be sweet if we trade but it wont make me cry if i end up keeping my crashed out Z either.. it is a fun car to drive..
