Just thought some of you might wanna see this. Thank god for my oil pressure gauge that saved the motor.

Let me take a stab...
shaved or lightened crank pulley + high Rs?

You sir.....are correct. CTR pulley revving 9100 in 5th. Ive learned. Thats why the built motor will be recieving an ATI dampner.

Why would a lighter crank pulley make the oil pump break at high rpms? It seems like it would be easier on it if anything. Unless it was unbalanced?
Your lucky you caught it in time. Do you have an idiot light in the oil pres. gauge? I know when I'm racing, I'm not looking at the gauges. Something I need to train myself to do.

Dampening... or lack there of. Becomes especially important at high revs.

This pretty much happens to everyone running a CTR crank pulley + turbo. I remember I was going to say something when I first saw Steve's build but I bit my tongue because I thought it might be Honda-Tech hype, but maybe it's not afterall.
Anyway there are a ton of threads on Honda-Tech about this. Luckily Steve is smart for running an oil pressure gauge as no Hondas that I have ever seen come with them stock.

Yeah the CTR pully is balanced to 9500rpm, but to take advantage of that the motors complete rotating assembly has to be balanced as well, along with the clutch and flywheel. The CTR has no type of harmonic dampening what so ever. I did the research and guys who have their complete bottom end balanced perfectly can use these pulleys. But i was on a completely stock LS bottom end. I do run an oil pressure gauge. It has saved my ass several times. One thing i always recommend to anyone doin anything really aaftermarket to their honda is a good quality oil pressure gauge.
And why the 9000+ in 5th.....i got sucked in by the overwhelming need to race a 1000cc bike. Couldnt resist the temptation.
For what its worth, i yanked the fuck outta the 07 R1 from 70-155. I know it was wreckless but i just couldnt resist.

i guess 155mph isnt too bad, i'm just not a huge fan of top speed runs... i know my camaro hits the rev limiter at 120mph in 4th with the 4.11 gears, i've had it to 140-ish... but have no urge to see where it tops out at in 6th....

I saw 140 two weekends ago coming back from kennewick. even slight bends in the road become pucker factors ;)

No way in hell a B16 or ITR trans is going to have gearing for 155mph on any kind of street tires.

I guess if he was revving past 8000 RPM it's possible, didn't think about that.

Ok, it was more like 167mph....

Putting another oil pump on the car was only a small bandaid i think. Tonight i was doin a second gear burnout and it decided to let the #2 rod swing through the block. Im pretty sure when the oil pump went, it starved everything of oil (obivously) and really heated up the rod caps and whatnot. Oh well, i had a smile on my face and i think its funny. That motor lasted 2 years on boost, so im not gonna bitch a single bit.

Mathematically the F-bod (with stock gears at least) is capable of like 205 IIRC. Only problem is you loose power in 6th because it is such a long gear and fighting a lot of wind resistance.
I have heard the top speed stock while in 5th gear is something like 175 or so, but don't quote me on that.
Bet the guy on the R1 was wondering wtf happened Steve! :D

Not trying to start anything but I seriously question a Hondas aerodynamic capabilities to go almost 170 mph. Obviously HP can overcome a lot of that but I'm willing to bet if you try it again with a GPS you might be find different results.
Steve, how much HP do you think your car makes?
