So for like the last 2 weeks my talon has been making a very loud ratteling ticking noise from the water pump area. Some of you may have heard it fridat night. Well, considering i just threw a water pump on it that i had layin around i figured it was just goin out again. Ran it pretty hard at the track friday night, hard enough to make my fastest pass in the car. So saturday i decided it was way too noisy and to pull it apart to replace it. What i found was a ripped in half balance shaft belt and a bad hydraulic tensioner that was allowing the tensioner pulley to bounce and makin the loud tapping sound. Now the tensioner should take roughly 550lbs to push it in. I could push this one in with my thumb. How thw car didnt ever jump time with a bad tensioner and a torn balance shaft belt i dont know. The DSM gods were shining down on me i guess. Just thought id share that.

Holly crap you are lucky. Taking your B-shaft's out?

if you have the motor in the car still it's easier to just not replace the belt than to remove the whole assembly, most dsm's come well balanced from the factory and it's still worth a little hp and reliability.

Wow, I was wondering what that noise was. You are very lucky, first your best time ever then to find out you dodged a bullet.

Thanks again for the help BTW. Let me know if you ever need anything:)

So i dodged a bullet with the timing belt situation, but today going down the division hill people are stupid and dont know how to drive so i ended up rear-ending a ford ranger and he in turn rear ended a 98 olds alero. and they deemed it to ne my fualt. So i got the ticket and have to repair the front of my talon.

It's spokane, the only good drivers are from CA and all of the locals blame them because they're confident and agressive on the road... because they know how to drive!!! hahaha

Hope you're ok man, let me know if you need a hand.

Actually the news last night said a study showed Washington state as 2nd in the nation for best drivers. Thay must all be on the west side of the state then. Weird huh?

Sorry to hear about the accident. I think Spokane has the worst drivers around. They drive slow and don't know what a free right is. I look like an aggressive driver just because I go 5 over and weave in and out of all the idiots going 5 under.

I don't get how you rear ended a vehicle that you can stop quicker than but it was his fault?

Well it was a 98 old alero and a 2000 ford ranger, and both had ABS. so they were able to actualy stop quicker than i was. The lady in the alero even told the cop she was on her cell phone and not paying attention. The cop was giving me crap about racing my car cause i still had the numbers in my window so i think they just assumed it was my fault.

But it basicly was a 35mph impact. It pushed my bumper support into the intercooler and that was pushed into the oil cooler and that was pushed into the radiator. Somehow i was saved again cause nothing was punctured. I pulled everything apart today and was able to salvage everything but the bumper and the pass. side corner marker. it took some creativity to get the core support pulled back into shape but its all good now and can barely tell anything happened.

Heres some pics.

Ya i cant stand seein my cars in bad shape like that. and the fact that it was pretty much just bolt on stuff meant that parts are easy to find.
