Thought I would just ask here. What is the difference between the 98-99 LS1 headers/manifolds and 2000+? Im going to be picking up some ceramic coated and see that all are listed for these years specifically. From pics I think all I can tell is possible EGR differences. Anyone know? thanks.

the 98-00 are all the same the 01-02 do not have EGR on it that should be the only difference

they might have changed where the AIR tubes go also. If you can just buy an off road setup and delete the EGR and AIR

Right, thats what I'm thinkin too. I'm not going to run EGR but couldn't think of anything else that would be different between the years. thanks...

98 is the only year that fbody manifolds were not cast. They are actually welded steel.

I'm asking from an aftermarket prospective. I dont want to run the cast ones because they're ugly. Proably looking at an ebay shorty set that is ceramic coated. Which is where I ran into the different year setups. And thats where I saw the different 98-99, and 00-02. Doesn't look like any shortys come with EGR and AIR deleted. I cant use long tubes for the car its going on and thats the only ones I found.
Anyone know if you can use high temp paint on new ceramic coated headers also? All the ones I see are gray and I wanted black.

I remember throwing on our LT headers, driver side was like a perfect fit. For the passenger side though, every planet in the galaxy had to align perfectly for a split second to get that crap in right. Easier than what the 4.6 Mustang guys have to go through I hear though.

Im actually posting a follow up on this thread. I finally found out the only difference between the 98-99 vs 00-02 is the cat location. Thus, most 98-99 shorty come with a separate short piece that needs to be welded in. has nothing to do with the EGR. I dont have that cat so I can use any set in the range.

I believe summit has a set of ceramic block huggers for around $350. I think that is what my brother is using on his BMW.

I just scored a set of Edelbrock TES jet coated off ebay. Brand new in the box for $280 shipped. I really didnt want chrome or polished so it worked out.
