Maybe we can revive our programs and get the car counts back up now. I wish I could tell Jay and Bucky that I told them so.

Im sure were gonna have it next year and hopefully management will run it a little better for the people.I wanna see alot of cars out there like it used to be.I thinkn theres gonna be alot more people willing to run it now that the improvements have been done and is alot better facility in my opinion.Well have to see i hope it all works out we need the track
I agree, and They said there were three companies that were interested in running it. Hopefully prices dont get hiked up for next year, but i'm going to guess they will. They also did a worse job with the circle track which also brought in a lot of cars and people in the past but managment was not prepared for anything. tech was all over, staging lanes were hectic as heck, hopefully if we have it next year we get some good managment.

You will be able to go down the track. In fact, with a 15sec. pass you can have a passenger and don't need a helmet. lol I probably will go through another motor because I have a new goal for the car next season and it will get pushed harder then ever.

I wonder what it would look like to watch *two* companies crash and burn? "AHRA takes down SCMP" SCMP could tie it's dinghy to the AHRA's sinking ship.
Now that a lot of the repair work is done, it's a great time to step in, make up a payment plan and start racing.

Does anyone know how bad the ripoff was?
mark6052
11-01-2009, 04:09 PM
rip off? you mean like orville did? I dont think bucky "ripped" anybody off and blaming Jay is BS. there was another person writing the checks. and Im sure bucky overviewed it all closely. the rent payment was set alittle optimistically high imo. hopefully they wont lease it to just anybody with wild ass ideas they can make it work. personally the county should hire jay directly.

mark i agree with you on hiring Jay...why not right? hes got the connections and background...and i believe has something to prove to all of the local racers (that he can make it a great place to race). and as far as the 'bucky rip-off' well it may have not been a rip off, but for sure a squandered dollar that he obviously didnt have the right priorities on, you can bet on that.
at this point i dont really give a rats ass about that track and its future. yeah i may be small potatoes in the relm of racing, and not a single soul will miss my fat ass at that race track when i'm gone....but there has been so much drama with that dump over the last 5 years, i could really care less if it were a drag strip or the new county landfill. I dont really understand why its sooooo tough to make the place work. if the place would just get dozed over it would save me a ton of money every summer!

I agree, Im fed-up with it. Im about ready to buy a nice fishing boat. spokane does deserve a good track. its just to bad that its like this again.
I'd have to say i agree with the rent being way too high, what was it 10,000 per month? you'd really have to make a ton durring race season to be able to afford that durring the off season, but the way they went about things didnt work, they already had high rent to pay, the turnouts wernt good as it was and they dumped a ton of money in to improve it which didnt do much to make more people come.

I wonder why the county did not get someone to run the park, like they do all the other parks.
Is the person "running" Manito leasing it? I'd guess they are an employee of the county or a volunteer. Or the person running Cannon Hill park?
I bet no one leases any other parks in Spokane and then tries to run them at a profit.

I see multiple problems with the track but one of the biggest is not fully utilizing it ie the road course. Instead they only rent it to Scott Adare for a fraction of the price that isn't offered to other people. He turns around and makes money on it, not the track. Drag racing is obviously the biggest money maker there but that is only 1/3 of what the track could be used for.
I agree, they didnt fully utilize anything IMO, i'm not saying by any means its easy as I wouldnt know. But in escence they could have done things way better to make more money and make things easier on themselfs finantially. I'm kind of curious why the city wouldnt just hire the people to run it directly instead of having somone lease it and taking a risk on their ability to do what is needed.

as i've heard in the last few days, the counties intention now is to simply hire a manager for the facility, not another lease. of course this is hearsay, but at least its coming from someone who has talked to the commisioners (no, it wasnt me). i ran into Jay Livingston in Las Vegas this last weekend and also gave me some insite of whats happened and what is coming. nothing concrete for sure tho.
IMHO, there were many people that had their hand in this place thinking they knew what they were doing (i.e. bucky AND the county) but really had no friggin clue. they asked a few racers what was needed and they ran with it. obviously some poor decision making and plain and simple not enough effort. once again, i vote to doze the joint...then we can all quit bitchin about it lmao!

That option would suck prety hardcore.. no place for people to go and now that people have faster cars.. yeah.. our main streets would SUCK. Although its sometimes interesting sitting outside in summer and just listening to motors rev and people fly around.

They should hire a kid who did nothing but play SimCity for his whole high school career. At least that guy would have some idea how to run a business.
I understand they only advertised on 94.5. I only listen to metal when I get in the work truck and forget to change the station. Coupla TV ads would not have gone awry. Especially when there was a big event coming up. Mostly I heard about them when people were talking about how they did. I know SCMP has a web presence but as a spectator, I am unlikely to check it.
But it's easy for me to bitch about what I "woulda done" now that it's over.
I agree, the advertising should have been "out there" and you shouldnt have had to specifically look for it such as online. Things like tv adds, more radio stations, bill boards etc. would have gotten to more people and may have brought a bigger group.

of course I would hate to see the place dozed over...its simply frustration talking, so dont take that opinion to heart. we all have been saying the same thing for so many years now...then change came and it sucked just as bad as the old days....from here on out I wont expect anything from the raceway park until otherwise displayed. oh well...none of us are getting rich doin this, so just open the damn doors and let us race...(with out fear of shutting down)

They need to hire multiple people to run different aspects of the track. It's just a shame this won't happen. I'd love to run the road course :D

rip off? I dont think bucky "ripped" anybody off . So there's no truth to the rumors that he would show up on race day , raid the cash box and leave the track with barely enough to pay out winnings, because he was in trouble with his other business ? I'm just asking, because that's what I overheard at the track one day about halfway through the season.
mark6052
11-09-2009, 08:44 PM
key word, "rumors", what facts can you show? same rumors had Jay taking 300k from the track. give it a rest. if you dont know facts stfu. Im not defending bucky but this is the same BS that I read of orville. fact is bucky owes about 1mill to contractors. I doubt he took that much from the cash box. and it doesnt matter unless it can be proven in court. same as orville.

I agree with Metz by keeping the doors open to let us race without fear of shutting down. I hope nobody thought this place was going to turn around over night into something great. MY thought is that someone needs be placed in the position of management and let them stay there for a while and let this place come around with time.

Wow i missed this thread for a while! maybe if the dragstrip didnt have some yuppies in charge it would have worked out.. IMO bucky wanted to make sure he had his cake and ate it too.. obviously bucky not broke buying a bunch of old race cars, and having them on display lol.... Livingston was the only one that stuck out as a decent guy..
Nice to see myself in the video on the news website.. I remember the news crew camera guy talking to me about how few people had shown up.. About time I update my site.. atleast bucky cant 86 me from the track now

The track will still owe all that money to the creditors, regardless of who is running it. Bucky just handed off a lot of problems to the next guy, who I pity already.

the county should not be responsible for buckys debts. the track was leased by austin motorsports llc. the county did not hire the contractors did they? not wanting to see them get screwed but if bucky files bankruptcy they are out the money. its just business. AHRA next year?
