I've been planning to do this for months, and finally started. I only got 1 picture that was clear. The motor is going in my brothers 1992 BMW 325i. Should be alot of fun. It made 341 whp, 345 wtq through the 4l60 and ran a best of 12.94 with 3.23's and stock converter. He will be bolting it to a T56 with 3.90's and the car weighs ~800 pounds less! Good luck justin!! Thanks to gtikyle and my brother for their help!

Hell yeah! That should be fun. You gonna use the stock GM computer? If you do, LS1harnesses.com makes a badass harness that is TONS easier to use than the stock one. You have HP tuners to turn off all the crap you dont need?

My brother has a harness already and will be using factory computer too. I'm picking up a new harness cause the factory one is hard and brittle. I'm using the stock computer because of emissions. I'm gunna need to have you edit my computer to delete the air pump and he needs alot of stuff done; including putting my tune on his ecu. We were gunna swap computers, but my mileage would be read wrong and I dont want my title F'd up.

Actually the dash cluster stores the mileage so switching your computer wont mess up your car except sometimes the VATS anti theft gets screwed.I say leave your computer with your car and do a new one for the swap.
I can pull your tune and put it into another computer but since your computer hasnt been unlocked to my HP Tuners interface, were gonna have to copy and paste each chunk of program. I can download and store your existing program but unless the 100 dollar unlock fee is paid, i cant throw the entire program into another ECU. Otherwise its gonna cost 200 bucks to unlock BOTH computers. Its no biggie to do it separately but just takes more time but cheaper.
Is the motor and harness 1998? Beware that 1998 computers are the odd year and 1999-2002 4th gen wiring pinouts are COMPLETELY different so match the computer to your harness! The 98 computer is just fine and does all the stuff 99-02 does but wont interchange. If your harness is 99-up, use the 1411 computer. I have a 99-up one if you need it.
At the very least, your gonna have to spend the 100 bucks HP tuner fee (thats what it costs me) to unlock the computer to be used in the BMW. Then all the gas tank pressure codes, egr, VATS, body control codes and 10 million other things have to be shut off to work right. The big one is VATS as the car will fire up for 1 second and shut down.
if you bring me both computers, i made harnesses to power em up on the bench and read em/flash em to be pretty close so the car isnt a non running trailer queen at first. Plus i hate doing house calls. LOL. Aint computers a bitch?

Wow. Thats alot of info I didnt know! Both computer and harnesses are '98's. We did that because they are the odd ball year!!! Go GM! I dont mind the cost. Having things running correctly and not throwing codes constantly is worth the money! Thanks for all the info!!! I really appreciate it. Anything else we can do to make your job easier, let me know.

Like my brother said, I did have a 98 harness built, and bought an ECU out of a 98 TA. On top of having the emissions crap, rear 02's and maybe the VATS deleted ( I might get a VATS box for security's sake) the ECU I bought was from an auto car, so I'll also need it to be configured to run with my T56. No matter what needs to be done to get the tune transfered and get the computer ready to go we were planning on taking it over to you at Stromberger Performance. Is that stupid bridge done yet btw?!
I haven't installed my harness yet, but if you have harnesses dedicated to bench tuning then I might start putting it on the motor so I can build my mounts.

Yeah the stupid bridge still isnt done. It sure makes it a pain to get to work everyday. Its no problem to make the auto computer work with a manual. Go ahead and install the harness as i can still power it up here.

I've been good so far about stopping and taking pictures as I make progress, and I will try to continue to do the same especially when it gets to the more complicated parts. I intend to organize everything when i'm further along and starting a more formal build thread.

Thanks James. I agree, I couldn't have brought myself to tear apart an M, but the 325 is my red headed step child! I'll abuse her for as long and as hard as I can!
