After numerous rumors and leaks, DaimlerChrysler today officially announced the new 2007/2008/2009 Dodge Challenger Concept, on display this week at the Detroit auto show. The car features a 425 horsepower 6.1L Hemi, capable of propelling the car to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds, and through the quarter mile in 13. Top speed is 174 mph. "Challenger draws upon the initial 1970 model as the icon of the series," said Tom Tremont, Vice-President of Advanced Vehicle Design at Dodge. "The 1970 model is the most sought after by collectors. But instead of merely recreating that car, the designers endeavored to build a Challenger most people see in their mind's eye-a vehicle without the imperfections like the old car's tucked-under wheels, long front overhang and imperfect fits," he said. "As with all pleasurable memories, you remember the good and screen out the bad."

Here's the deal with the 08 Challenger. They just announced pricing information. The MSRP will be 37,995. For the 08 year, there will only be 3300 produced and they will all be SRT-8 models. Every Dodge dealer is guaranteed to receive one; however outside of that, they can order them, but vehicles are delivered based on priority (largest volume of totals sales, viper sales, and also SSI scores). This first limited run will likely command a MUCH higher price than MSRP. So if you had your eyes on one...good luck! Now the good news is that for the 2009 model year the Challenger will be in full production - with all trim levels available.

Dodge.com says the Challenger is starting at $40,095.
At least they have a car coming out. There is no plan to start manufacturing the Camaro. Chevrolet.com only has CGI photos of the car and cartoons. Chevrolet is trying to compete with the Mustang but their car keeps coming out in the mid $30K, for the sucky, base model. For a sucky, base model Mustang you only have to beg for $19K.
The Challenger is a sick looking car. There won't be many but I hope to get my car ready enough to smoke one, at the track.
"Your Challenger is pretty. I'm thinking of getting one for my girlfriend." [duck]
It's got good gears, limited slip, good power and lets hope Dodge keeps making that ridiculous Hemi, instead of a pentroof design head. If they come out with a 3-4 valve design, it will get better mileage and loads more top end power. I don't want to race any of those, in my current configuration.

Only if the dealer is SRT certified...
There is no such thing as a dealer being SRT certified as a dealership. However, a sales consultant can be SRT certified. If the dealership sells the Dodge brand, they are able to sell the full SRT line without doing any additional certification. Now being a Five Star dealer is something completely different - even those Dodge dealers that are not Five Star will still be guaranteed one Challenger if they wish to order it.
The Intial inside release quoted $37,995. I do see now on the site it is showing 40k however we have not received any information about the change.
Update: Chrysler has raised the production to 4,500 units.

Go to Official Dodge Site - New Autos, Trucks, Minivans, SUVs, Cars, Wagons (http://www.dodge.com)
In the upper left, put the mouse over [SELECT A VEHICLE] but don't click.
Mouse down to [CHALLENGER] but don't click.
It says ["MSRP* Starting at: $40,095. Concept vehicle shown."]
[EDIT: Oops, 97GSX, I thought your post said "don't see it says $40K". My bad]
I bet the brakes are too big for 15" wheels. That would cut down on the 1/4 mile time and 0-60 time by reducing rotational mass. An aluminum drive shaft would too (that's my next bolt-on mod). Steeda says it will reduce 1/4 mile time by about 0.2 sec. Aluminum flywheel would be nice too but I think drag strips don't like them, for some reason.
Speed costs money. That's why the Challenger is co$tly, I'm thinkin'. That car is going to be sick. Drag times like a Vette? At half the cost and none of the pesky problems you get with a car that handles well! :)

There is no such thing as a dealer being SRT certified as a dealership
umm...yeah there is buddy. They have to go through special training, have special tools, stock all the SRT parts and be able to keep SRT vehicles on the lot. Any dealership can be SRT certified, but not all are, and last I heard if you aren't SRT certified dealer then you can't sell or service SRT vehicles.

Wow, never knew that. Makes since though unless you break down in a town that is not SRT certified. Guess you are hosed then.

A Chrysler product break down!!?? You must be joking.....
*note the sarcasm :|
It does seem that the SRT products are 10 times better put together than their respective non srt origin (IE: SRT magnum vs. crappy v6 magnum)

I've heard the same things about the Mustang. V-6... pass.
GT... the bomb. Quality is much higher on the GT, for some reason. The 2004 GT was America's most dependable vehicle (not the new model). It beat the Accord and the Camry (Consumer Reports 2005).

Jus tlooking at the Challenger site, via Dodge.com...
They really went badge-crazy on the new Challenger.
Ram's head badge........ Standard
6.1L badge..................Standard
Challenger badge..........Standard
SRT8 badge.................Standard
Dodge ID badge............Standard
Dodge - Specs Upgrades (http://www-5.dodge.com/vehsuite/VehicleCompare.jsp?vehicle=2008challenger&tab=Standard&selectedProductId=lcdx220.082DX)
The Mustang doesn't say Mustang on it anywhere, inside or out. It says Ford on the rear and has a pony in the grille. I guess FoMoCo figured if you live on Earth and don't know what a Mustang is...
Anyone else think the Challenger and Camaro look a lot alike?
