Theres little information i could find online about the noise i'm hearing with my 84' corvette. Its the 4+3 trans and the overdrive actually works and works well which from what information i've found isnt something you find often.

The car only has 51,700 miles currently but there is a noise when the clutch is let out and the car is in neutral. sounds kind of grinding.. push the clutch in.. noise is gone, I figured if it was the throw out bearing it would make the noise with the clutch pushed in as it'd have pressure on it, but could easily be wrong.

It has a somewhat funky sounding noise (not grinding, hard to explain) when the car is in gear and moving with the clutch out aswell but i'm not sure if thats just normal.

I just figured i'd ask some opinions of what you think it could be, I figured once its back i'll check the fluid and fill if needed though i havent found much information on what fluid it uses and how to drain/refill or even just refill.

no.. usually you have to push it to the floor pretty good for it to go away.. then it'll slowly.. very slowly slowdown the grinding sound then stop making the sound

could be the support bearing on your input shaft... that is my .02 because of the slowly quieting down... i could be wrong as i have not actually seen the car...

sounds to me it could be either the pilot bearing like echo said or could be low on tranny fluid and your hearing the gears in the tranny slowing down??? thats my thought

yeah the trans does seem like it gets a lil warm so i'm gonna check/fill fluid when it gets back i'm hoping its not a bearing because i really dont want to tear into a car i just picked up to sell, and definatly dont want to tear into a corvette.

i installed a brand new throwout bearing that made noise with no pressure on it, but would quiet down if i put pressure on the clutch pedal.. changed it and noise was gone..

The car doesnt get driven much if at all so i'm going to leave it untill just before selling it. I've been having really shitty luck lately and dont need to mess up a freshly painted corvette.

It doesnt look good in pictures but it looks prety good in person. I've had nothing but compliments even on the wheels. Definatly look better than any stock c4 wheel i've seen. I dont mind rockin a c5 wheel.

update on the noise... Sadly i'm wishing i didnt neglect it as much and wouldnt have been lazy because i'm thinking its low on fluid as shifting was a little tough when i took it out tonight, it loosened up but ugh. Live and learn.. and hope the learning doesnt break the bank...

another update.. sadly.. whatever it is.. its not good... it was a little low on fluid but not bad.. the fill plug when i pulled it off was the first sign of bad.. its magnetic, and you guessed it.. covered in metal filings.. being as it had so many metal filings i decided a change in fluid would be smart, so just as the fill plug, the drain plug was covered about oh.. a 1/4 inch thick of metal shavings and muck. i refilled it with new fluid and figured it may help a little but with that many shavings i wasnt hoping for miricals and didnt get any either.. still has the noise.. and now i'm thinking its worse than just a pilot bearing or throw-out bearing.. and thats... not good. This car has been the worst 51k mile car i've ever encountered. though age and rough past probably has a lot to do with it.. good grief.
