View Full Version : What will next year bring for SCR??
Well, next year is fast approaching..... how will the track do? will the track live under the current mgt another year, or will the orville moe curse prevail and the track will once again be restructured under some other organization?? Will the track live long term??? Inquiring minds want to know.......

I know I won't give them as much of my money as I did last year until they prove that going out there is actully worth the money they charge. I sure wont pay $15 to make one pass and go home.

Hopefully the track will still be around for quite a while after all this BS the last several years. Possibly there could be a way to create a CONSTRUCTIVE suggestion box here? You know, like.....
-do the light bulbs in the shitters need replaced?
-one person at a time maintaining the water box,
Things that we all feel require attention, we could group them into one compact area and be constructive about. No bashing if you didnt help, no whining, things of that nature.
Bottom line, write down some stuff that you see could be improved with the daily operation.
What is the buzz around there, it the plan to run the track under same mgt. as last year? Does anybody know if the track is close to break even or is it still a money pit for the county?? Just wondering what the word is.....
One thing that I find interesting is that there are so many people inthe area that go out on friday night, so many people that run street cars on the track which is good, but I have heard that there are more people on friday than saturday elimination events...... is this true? if it is, seems a little backwards??

Yes the same management company will be in place for next year. ther are a few things that alot of people need to take into consideration concerning last year.
First- the mangement last year didn't even get the " keys " to the track untill the end of April because the county was draging thier feet with the contracts, which put every thing behind schedule for opening.
Second- All the rain the area got in the month of may didn't help! that also delayed the opening day.
Third- the county had leased the road corse out to multiple groups before the management company signed contracts, which caused numorus scheduling conflicts for the management company to schedule drag races or had to cancel races. this issue will not happen this year cause the track management will cotrol all scheduling this next year.
Also at this time the track is in a road coarse remodel and the issue of running a road corse and having time to move safety walls will no longer be a problem. they will be able to run a road course event and turn around and run drags the same day.
The fourth issue was the circle track was not in any condition to be run on with all the cracks in the racing surface, that is part of the off season remodel. so expect to see the roundy rounds going next year.
Starting a new job like this management company did this last year was a rough one, they were not prepaired for alot of what hit them at the beging of the season. You have to admit no company walking into a mess that they did would have it easy job to do. But I feel they did an awsome job coming around towards the end of the season, and started to make things happen the way they should. So next year should be awsome, cause the management will have full control of the schedules.
The reason that you didnt see many of the bracket racers like in the orvil days is that, same are Orvil die hards that are stuborn about not liking the NHRA safty rules, or the other is when Bucky had the track racers got a bad taste in their mouth, and this year we had such a bad/ late start to the season racers started running out of town , like too renegade or wala wala, since they had an earlier start of thier seasons.
I think this year you will see more racers come back once things get rolling again. I noticed alot of out of town racers this year cause the word of the track surface and how nice the surface is to race on is spreding.
Another thing that is going to be good for this next year is the management has nailed a big event for next year and that is , The Super Chevy magazine national event. for mid next summer. You should also see info on the tracks web site soon for schedules, I know thier goal to post then was mid Nov.

They shouldn't do the road course and drag racing the same weekend. Seems easy enough to schedule to avoid conflicts. I've been there when they tried to do both and it was a mess. Drag strip should only be run on like the 1st and 3rd weekends of the month. I've always said this. Look at other successful tracks, thats how they do it. Racers can still race and have time for family crap only other weekends.
Thanks for the update, I sure hope it all works out, I just wanted to know if it is going to be doing the same thing it has for the past several years, only giving somebody 1 year to figure it out. Is there a forum that the serious bracket racers in the northwest post on? I assume they hang out on some forum?
Is this the event that you are speaking of?

In all due respect, this is completely inaccurate imo, most bracket racers want to run a home track 9 out of 10 weekends to avoid travel expenses, they have money tied up into cars that need to be run to win $$$. If the track is only open a couple times a month they will find somewhere else. Keep in mind that people thrive on running for points and preparing for the race of champions, this is an NHRA track and you can go to some pretty cool stuff by winning points. Also, many succesful tracks run multi events, look at O'rielly raceway park in Indy, can race every weekend there with roundy rounds and road track, and there are many others. I mean no offense to anyone, but the bracket racers who are serious are what keep the car counts up with cars that spectators want to see, spectators do not come to see cars that have ET's that start with double digits, or even 8-9.X I will also say that its going to take some good promoting to get some big $$ events, you would be surprised at how many people will show up to see cars as slow and boring as mine run for $50k...... so fast cars or slow cars racing for money. In addition, the best thing a track can do for car count is offer a gold card....... just my .02 .... or maybe that was .03 LOL

Will the track live long term???
I dont see it.
Not unless it turns into a full-time track. By that I mean running during the week, Most successful tracks have nights and/or days during the week where they are running.
Running only Fri-Sun..... I dont see how thatll work. Not with the casino wanting it SOO bad.

Thats a good point, there are a number of tracks relatively close that do wed or thurs night T&T's. Not sure if Spokane/CDA could support that, but its a thought.

Thats the thing. Theres no way it can.
I think there is a difference in things at SCR compared to most tracks in that in the area there are not as many people into bracket racing as there are people who would pay to go out on a friday night and have a good time running for fun, though I could be wrong.
Maybe I see it differently though as I personally love the track not for what it could make, I see it as an option for people who want to know what their car is capable of or for a grudge race and to have a cost efficient and safe place to do so in a fair manner, and to keep it off the street where other people are endangered.
I sincerly hope the track management is able to buckle down and put on a good show next year and clear up any issues they had. Its understandable to need some time to work out the kinks but i'm not having my hopes up, hopefully it works out though.

Problem is the area won't support a full time Quality track with the entry fee's they have to charge to pay the bills. I did the racing every weekend for points for a couple years. Got burned out. When I moved I started racing only a couple times a year, maybe once a month and I enjoyed it more.
For instance: Boise, they race like twice a month and throw in a big race couple times. That area has A LOT more racers and a lot more money. People come from a long ways to race there because its a quality track, payouts are good and the atmosphere.
Yakima: I think this track has it worse than SCR. But do to a good program and racing twice a month they get it done. A lot of local people make the trip down there.
IMO ... Drag Strip should be open 1st/3rd weekend of the month, road course can have 2nd/4th of the month. AND DEFINATELY DO A MID WEEK TEST AND TUNE. LOCAL PEOPLE HAVE BEEN SCREAMING FOR THIS FOREVER!!
