OK looks like I am stuck with the Mustang. I am wondering what the cheapest way to add more power to My 95GT I have seen turbo kits for 700.00 but the super chargers go from 1800.00 to 5000.00. Any input would be appreciated.

Mark.

Depends if you want to build the block or not. The stock block can hold a just a couple psi so a supercharger running at about 6lbs would??increase the fun factor, but overall a turbo will be more efficient and add more power and possibilities. Problem is if your block, tranny... can hold up. Also depends on what you want out of it (street/daily driver with 400hp...). I have a good budy with a 98 cobra running a centerfugal supercharger and he likes it quite a bit but wont even add an intercooler because he wants to change the whole setup to a turbo.

Any turbo kit for $700 is going to be probably pretty shabby. A decent system from a big name will be closer to $3000 and thats not neccessarily including everything your car will need to run it reliably. I'm not even sure who is making kits anymore so maybe throw some links out and we can tear those apart, lol.

Consider what Beau said.

IMHO: Two smaller turbo's...

...that is all.

best way to look at it is what your mechanical profieciency is and your maturity, With a supercharger your get x psi and it's a bit of work to add more power, but it's gonna be more consistant. Say you race someone at the track and they beat you, they talk shit and with a turbo you can pop the hood, crank the boost controller up a few psi, and smoke him, or possibly smoke your engine. What it comes down to is if your a ricer style person get a stupidcharger, if you want to go fast and want the ability to break shit, go turbos.

On a stock 95 5.0 block you can spray what Dean (Hog) likes to call his Hyperutectic tune... a 75 shot.

Or depending what you really want, just building a good naturally aspirated engine can get you there. Dont discount it.

Damn you guys tear something apart, never!!! LMAO JK Well I was also considering doing the bigger intake and heads from a 96+ 5.0 explorer you know open it up a little. The turbo systems I saw were on ebay and I know I am going to get shit right off the bat for that. LOL :P I guess the other option would be to check the classifieds on some mustang forums. I guess I would want it to be a functional daily driver, and of course do it as cheap as possible. I have thought about NOS of course. I am still doing research on the 5spd conversion. A couple of more months and it will be tax time. LOL

If you go turbo i would strongly suggest hellion. One of the few companies with excellant customer support and service. I would either get the kit and run low boost for a while. Then save up and buy a shortblock capable of tons of abuse. Or you could always stroke out the 302 to like 347 and get some afr heads and a kick ass cam.

Either way you look at it the pony's aren't cheep! I Scored a set of 10:1 heads on e-bay for 300 after shipping and had them gone through all in all I spent 425 dollars after everything when you buy buy theme brand new there 3 hundo a piece! But I still have like 600 dollars worth of parts left to buy just for the head swap!

Now time for some firsthand knowledge. Stay the hell away from ebay. Go visit www.turbomustangs.com/smf. Stay there and read(search) for at least a month, don't post there until you do that. Leave the auto right where it is if your going to turbo, they like autos better(i have a powerglide). Your block is the weak point of your combo, don't worry about your pistons, your block will crack long before that. Don't even worry about getting gt40p heads and intake if your going to turbo, you'll make more than enough hp than you can probably safely handle right off the bat. Unless your pretty good with a welder i would look for a good used kit. Single or twins will not matter that much. The fun factor will be far higher than going NA.

If thats the case, throw some nitrous on it and/or some afr or trickflow heads, free flowing intake, and a cam. A turbo kit for 2,000 will probably never happen.

I had roughly 2400 in my intercooled single turbo kit for my 80 gt with a T-72 and that included all new dual exhaust with mufflers. It made 444.6 RWHP at 12psi on pump gas. This was a carb set up as well....and if you want some cheap hassle free big turbo hp you should go blow through as well! Just some more real experience for ya!

Yeah I was running 20-22 psi and 10.40's, my block is still together, it was a head gasket that started to go.

I'm assuming some of your guys turbo setups are carburated, how do you guys control ignition?

lock it out at 24 deg. FI is a waste of time IMO.......put a carb on it and tune it with a screwdriver and be done!!!! Much cheaper and carb set ups have been into the 2800 hp range with a single carb on alcohol.
