So the head and master rebuild kit are in route as we speak for the gsx. And one of my friends came by the other night and offered me a trade for my 90 TSi. What do i get in return? A 94 civic dx coupe with a full gsr swap. The bad, the gsr in the civic spun a bearing. but i also get a good chunck of money with the civic and have alredy tracked down a perfectly running gsr bottom end for only $200. The body on the civic is 100% straight, never wrecked. And is also primed and ready for paint. And i also have about 70% of the parts to do a low boost turbo kit on it. And im keeping all the performance parts on the TSi, Filter, fuel pump, front mount and piping, AFCII, Sparco seat, extended rod on the slave cylinder. What do you guys think?

You have two DSMs!!! Why stop now - get a 3rd!

Well...if you do end up getting rid of it for a civic i will be a sad day for DSMers worldwide. I personally will shead a tear for you :-(

i was gonna say, you still have the GSX, so why not? Especially if you get to keep the goodies out of the Talon.

no point going from AWD to FWD...you're losing on it

Trust me, you DON'T want a big power FWD project. There's nothing fun about wheel spin up to 55mph. The only reason I still have mine is a hope of converting it to AWD :(

yea I can testify that FWD is gay....ever spin thru halftrack or spin passing a car on the freeway? I have.

Honestly, i think a big part of why i want to build a fwd car is the fact that all the fwd guys i raced this past season said the only reason i was beating them was cause i had awd. so im gonna show some people what 2 driving schools and my knowledge of hondas and fwd can do. and yes ive driven a couple of turbo hondas and a 350hp fwd dsm. I also put an all motor b16a with ctr cams and pistons, stock b16ecu, and stock crx si exhaust into the 13's cutting 2.0 60ft. plus i will still have my gsx that if i feel inferior i can jump in and not have traction problems.

Go for civic bro....you already have a clean ass GSX rolling chasis to build a bad ass AWD car!! I say got for it all the way

depends how nice the chunk of change is, if ur looking to use it as a daily driver u'd be happy but seems to me the way u build cars u'd have a lot more fun keeping the talon and daily driving that, even in a near stock form that car was doing low 13's on that heat soaked side mount

I say go for the civic since you already have a DSM. FWD can be frustrating sometimes but i think you just need to pay extra attention to suspension.

Its cool to have a diverse stable of cars.

It makes me laugh when I see people bitching about FWD. Yeah, its counter-productive, but don't make it sound like traction in a FWD is impossible. Quit thinking about all 200 horsepowers in the car for a minute and look at suspension and weight transfer. Back in the day of the NA street civic I was getting 1.5-1.7 60fts all day long on drag radials and I beat plenty of higher power cars.

Leave the horsepowers for the dyno. Set up the rest of the car to get the ET.

I like the way Meng put it. Ya it would be nice to keep the talon, but to have to near identical awd cars in the garage would be kind of a waste. So a 400+whp dsm and 320+hp civic in the garage would be a little more fun. plus a civic with a gsr swap can still get 30+mpg, while my dsm on a good day on the freeway can do a sultry 26. By the way Meng, nice numbers on the dyno yesterday. Very impressive. I might call upon your knowlege when it comes time to throw down on the gsr with a turbo setup. looking to get a streetable 300+ out of it. What turbo are you running, seemed like there was alot of turbo lag.

Thanks for the compliments. yeah... feel free to hit me up with any questions, i don't know it all but i can probably point you in a direction.
I'm running a t3/t4 50trim with .48 a/r. Its actually not as laggy as it might seem on the dyno, probably b/c of real load. On the street i see 15psi at about 4300-4400rpms, but as you can tell the power is quite peaky.

At 25psi i think the .48 housing is pretty much maxed out.

Well....plans have changed once again. Instead of the coupe that id have to put alot of money into...ive come up on a 93 civic cx hatch with a gsr swap. It has hasport mounts, hasport hydraulic to cable conversion for the tranny which means i can run cable trannys, carbon fiber hood and bumper intake scoop, carbon fiber spoon duckbill spoiler, spoon f1 mirrors, hid conversion, 15" rota wheels and full tanabe exhaust. And have a spare gsr bottom end too. Cant wait to throw some boost at it and make a little power.

How much would you sell the '90 for?

I bitch about FWD because I have a street car. I've been to the race track 5 times in almost 3 years. I'd rather swap to AWD than flush money down the drain on track equipment. If he's building an ET car and not a daily driver, FWD, RWD, AWD, they all work. If he wants a big hp daily driver, screw FWD.

My car was a street car as well when it was pulling the 60ft time of most AWD cars.

yeah i agree with 98spyder. With just a measly 300whp on the street, traction can be a big prob for with street tires + lsd. Its managable with drag radials but who wants to have to roll around with drag radials 24/7. Where as RWD or or AWD is gonna be able to put that power down and make it more usable for everyday use. "everyday use" is the key word.

If you just want to build a drag specific car then its a whole different story.

Also, all-motor is gonna be different than turbo'd i'm sure you all know.

Except blown up rear end, transfer cases, trannys, smoked clutches. Well...that is unless you have the money to beef every thing up.

I didnt realize i was goin to be starting the awd vs. fwd debate here.

Either way... when done right, any car can be made fast. Now theres all-motor hondas doin low 9's. This car for me is more of a street/show/race car. Kinda like 94bluegsx. he has an all around kind of car. My talon isnt anything to look at. The honda is a clean all around car. Its just a matter of being able to respect someone that put a fair amount of themselves into a project. I mean...NO OFFENSE to ANYONE...but...I hate volkswagens. But that doesnt mean i cant appreciate a nice fast vw when i see one.

Yeah, I guess I agree. I always look at it from a track stand point, since I rarely use even all 92 HP of the Civic on the street. I don't really feel the need to use 300 HP on the street so I never have traction problems. :)

yeah, thats why i'm never more than 50% throttle on the street. I'm serious too!

I can't afford a speeding ticket.
