What exactly are boundaries in Spokane for emission testing? How do they determine which car to test/not test.

I think it has to do with the year of the car/truck. Each year it is either odd or even years. As most of ours are exempt I am not sure what it is this year you would need to call and find out. But if the car/truck is 25 years old it is exempt from having to be tested.

long lake residents don't pay emissions. I thought it has to do with zip code, etc

Long lake is spokane county. Suncrest is stevens county.
I live in spokane county (almost borderline but still not in city) so I dont think I have to pass emissions or do I?

The very first public launch on long lake is stevens county and is only 1 mile or so from 9 mile dam, so in other words the begining of the lake.

It is by zip code initially and right now, 81 and older is exempt, 1st of the year it'll be 82 and so on.

I believe so.??When I was living in the Valley (Spokane Country not City) I had to do emissions.??This year was even years for emissions as I had to do it for my car.??Next year is odd.
What I needed to have done was register it back at my parent's house ha ha The car passed though...so I guess it was no biggie. You should receive a notice in the mail if you do have to do emissions. Cheney doesn't have to do it either by the way.

when I had my 240 done it was anything 992** had emissions. other than that you may be able to slip through without doing emissions.

what is the car? All new cars from today and 5 yrs older do not take emissions,
25 yrs or older are exempt.
If you live in Spokane county, Period, you are required.
If you purchase a car and live in Spokane county you are required regardless if the vehicle is do.
all vehicles prior to 95 or 96 are required to pass emissions through tailpipe test, after 96 they only test from OBD2 Port, unless you are over 8800 GVW.
That is what i know at this time.lol hope this helps.

Gasoline and diesel vehicles at least five years old and up to 25 years old need an emission test every other year. Your registration renewal notice will tell you if your vehicle needs a test.
Year Vehicles requiring a test
2006 1982 - 1994, even model years and 1997s, 1999s, 2001s
2007 1983 - 1995, odd model years and 1996s, 1998s, 2000s, 2002s
2008 1984 - 1994, even model years and 1997s, 1999s, 2001s, 2003s

All of spokane county does not have to pass emissions. All of my stuff is registered in Valleyford, they don't have to, most rural areas don't either. As of a couple years ago the farthest north it went was colbert, it goes by zip code, just call one of the licensing places and ask.

Lucky us AWD guys...I was told by an emissions tester that pre OBD II cars run on the dyno with a tailpipe sniffer. There is an exception however for AWD folks with OBDI and older - They still make you do the tail pipe sniff but since they dont have an AWD dyno, they only make you rev the engine to a specific RPM while in neutral - thus staying in vacuum the entire time and less likely to spit out the nasty stuff that would fail you.
I will have to take my car thru emissions next month and with all my emissions stuff removed, I hoping I will pass ;-)

One of the loop holes ive personally advised some of my friends to use the the good ole Po box trick.
Also, after you register from a po box and get your tabs, you can then go to the licensing web site and change you address back to your home that way when it comes time to renew they send the reminder to your current addy.
Thats one way to go about it, either that or move out to a rural area. I prefer the later.

Or you could just stick a bra in the tail pipe. Better yet a handful of tampons should do the trick. Just make sure they are extra absorbent and are the odor fee kind...LOL

I was told PO boxes were no longer acceptable, that it has to be a physical address.

I just register my cars under my business, which is out of Wenatchee and Wenatchee doesn't require emissions. Let me know if you want to set up an LLC, I can help you.

if you use a P.O. box then you need to sign an affidavit that says that that is your mailing address and you don't have a physical mailing address.

It's a little more expensive than most things, but you have much more flexibility, plus tax advantages. Also, if you buy things that may not be resellable, buy them under your LLC, that way if you decide to sell them, and the government has forbidden sale, just sell the LLC and bam you are through the loophole. IE I have some NFA guns, one of which is no longer licensable. So, if I ever decide to sell it, I will just sell the LLC it is registered to.
Also, you can hide assets from anyone who might be interested in sueing you. IE all of my cars are registered to one of my LLCs, and my new duplex is soon to be owned by another LLC. Something to think about if you own lots of expensive crap.
Not sure why I just wrote all of that... but if you are interested in setting up an LLC I can show you how.

I was thinking maybe I wouldn't have to get emissions if I wait till next year, since this year is odd numbers and next year its even.
