Car runs GREAT. Starts up every time, all the time (even now). Idles fine, pulled hard, etc. Interior is in very good condition. All glass is there, none is broken. Tint is peeling and needs to be removed. Rear defroster does not work.

The bad: Since I got the car, I have had trouble shifting to reverse while the car is running. The clutch does not fully disengage. I replaced slave cyl, master cyl, installed steel braided clutch line, and bled the system multiple times. Same issue. Installed extended slave rod, same issue. I was going to pull the trans sometime in the next few months and install the clutch fork and pivot ball, but then yesterday, something went wrong:

I was driving home from work yesterday and it started making a clunking sound from the drivetrain. I have not had time to inspect it yet to see what it was, but it appears the CV axels are not causing this (but should be replaced). I have not inspected it further than that. The car moves on it's own power, but makes a clunking noise from the drivetrain.

Paint on both front fenders is fading. Paint on front bumper is peeling/cracked. Rear bumper is same way - this was a California car and the heat killed it.

I have a folder full of recipts from this car.

Best Offer offer around $3000. Located in Spokane, WA

Heh. I need a garage to inspect it, a garage to fix it, a flatbed trailer to tow it to that garage, and a bit of time to work on it. Other than that, I am not going to sit out in the snow attempting to pull a tranny for the first time ever laying on the cold ground and blistering wind. I could use the money for bills/holiday season, too, if the car is not going to be doing me any good.

$2500 for Eric's car isnt a ton of money. And bein offered $1500 for a newly rebuild 4g63 6-bolt in a clean 91 GSX is bein extremely lowballed. Eric....dont sell the car. It sounds like a dropped u-joint or carrier bearing failure. Fix it. Look at the driveline first. Sorry. not tryin to start a war, but on idahostreetracing.com, i was offered alot more for my car running and also was told if i was local i would get the $1700 i wanted for it not running. So dont try to sell your car on here Eric. if your gonna sell it put it on idahostreetracing.com. I got what i was askin for my car in the first week i put it up. Need any help, call me.

feel free to be offended by my offer, it was on a non running car that blue books for much less than you were asking for it and that had body damage, and with how the car needed a re-build in the first place who knows what else you screwed up with being dumb.

Fuck this lowball shit....Right in the ear!

Let’s get the local dsmers together, fix Eric's ride, call it a xmas gift and be done with it. Seriously, it cant be that difficult to diagnose your clutch engagement issues, its prolly going to involve dropping the tranny but thats no big deal. Your drive train noise is likely ujoint or carrier bearing related as Steve suggested.

You make it sound like its been totaled 3 times. the body damage isnt bad at all. You need to get that out of your head. And yes....it wasnt running. But considering eveything that cam with it.....Thats a good price. Theres over $1200 dollars worth of new parts and a ton of other stuff. Why did you make an offer of $1400 the way it sat, and when i said $1600 and all my dsm parts go with you laughed at me and told me $1500 running. Thats a fucking joke. Your just tryin to take advantage of people who are at their weakest. Lowballer from hell. And i was insulted...until i considered the source. Anyways....The subject is dead. You dont have to worry about buying my beater pos dsm. But as long as im a member on here i wont let you try to screw others Like Eric who will openly admit he doesnt know everything. Im down with 4stfed. Lets fix it and get it up and running again. sort of a get well soon, merry christmas gift. i dont have money but ive pulled a couple of these trannys and drivelines and will offer my labor. Lets do it.

Eric's a good guy and I like to do things for good people. I'll buy ya a couple cases of Dew to keep you goin when you find the time to fix it. I'm not going to see you in a Supra or whatever again that you don't want. Ultimately its your decision man, but like everyone else except a select few, I would like to see you up and running again smoother than before. You got my number.

That would be great guys.. I won't lay around in the snow breaking it further than it already is, but if someone who has already pulled a tranny can help me out, that would be awesome. I'v never done it, and learning in 0degree weather sucks worse than most things... I dunno.. I really don't want to sell this car - it is honestly the best running 4g63 i have ever seen... not the fastest, but it starts RIGHT up on the first crank and has no issues... i am out working on it today trying to find out what's up with it.. if anyone feels like driving out to deer park. heh. 509-280-6106

Although i’ve never done it myself either, pulling the tranny is fairly strait forward as I understand it - pop the axels, pull the t-case, remove a cross member or two, remove tranny mount, loosen some bolts and down she comes. My buddy in Portland pulled his tranny to replace a broken clutch fork and only took a few hours - I watched on the webcam :-) The only issue he ran into was jacking the tranny back up. After wrestling with it for over 2 hours we enlisted the help of 'oldman' on dsmtuners. He suggested using an engine hoist to support the tranny instead of a floor jack - worked like a charm.

If you still need some help tomorrow, i've got the day off so just let me know.

EDIT: Im busy tonight - New parts arriving from machv :-)

I know you know what the VFAQ's are but this is what I used when I did my tranny swap... http://www.vfaq.com/mods/clutch-1G.html same place I got the info on doing the output shaft swap on my new tranny. a1320honda
11-30-2006, 02:14 PM
Like the first 3 i did it, i was using a floor jack to prop it back up in there. the scary thing is i was alone and those things weigh alot and its kinda scary balancing those on a floor jack and waiting for it to come tumbling down. Fortunately it never did. And the last time i pulled from the top while Chad pushed from the bottom and it only took a minute or so to get it up....LOL! But ya, the basics....Pop the axles out, unbolt the lower ball joint and pull those out toward you, More than likely youll have to loosen if not drop the downpipe all together to gain access to the 5 17mm bolt that hold the x-case in, Drop thex-case, unplug your backup light switch, and your speed-o cable, and then the 2 12mm that hold the slave cylinder on. Its alot easier if you remove the whole tranny mount completely, which is 2 17mm on the tranny and the long one goin through the mount itself. Youll need a jack or something under the engine and sometimes its easier to unbolt the front mount to let the motor drop down a bit more. At that point its the 4 14mm around the bellhousing and ya there is a crossmember under there too that needs to come out. And its all easier if you remove your intake pipe and your upper charge pipe. Thats just a quick summary i guess.. Eric, you know my number if your gonna attempt this and need any help, call me.

I can help to if you need hand. I just R/I my trans and engine a couple months ago with a cherry picker and a couple tie-downs around the trans. It made it a lot easier. My Black talon I used a floor jack and had it come crashing to the ground but lucky my arm broke the fall.;)

I've swapped out, um....16 trannys in dsms's, just make sure you get the little 10mm bolt that goes in the opposite way in the differential otherwise the tranny will push away from the block when you push in the clutch and it'll snap off the little sleeve that the TOB slides on after a little bit....don't ask how I know :-)

Wierd. I put the car on jackstands and ran it through some gears - no noise - so I figured it was only under load and i would not be able to diagnose it. I took it back off jackstands and went to pull it out of the garage.. no noise! I then drove it around the block 4 times, even got it up to 75mph and no noise. WIERD. 4stfed - the car even came with a TOB and a fork, the exhaust seriously pissed me off though and found lots of random mystery things that the car has going on, doubt eric would have gotten the tranny pulled in anything short of a month. For example one of the nuts on the strut tower bar would spin, had lots of tension on it, but it never loosened, the stud it was on was'nt spinning either, that took me like a fucking hour to get resolved without taking a hack saw to the car.

Whoa...Wait a minute here! I was the first to offer to let Eric use my garage. I even offered to help with the wrenching. The only stipulation was that it couldn’t sit in there for anything more than a few days since I use that garage to park my cars at night. I guess it was a motivation thing on Eric’s part. Steve, in all honesty, he offered to help me fix it, but I did not have the money to fix it. I could not throw down the $500+ that it could have taken to fix everything on the car. I had medical bills flowing, and needed to get out of debt. I will get another DSM in the future, but for now, it was in my best interest to sell the car to anyone. I am now out of debt and can work on getting my life more in order.

DSMers here DID offer to help me pull the tranny and such, but the fact of the matter is, no matter what is wrong with it, I could not afford to fix it. I did have the clutch fork and TOB, but I will be surprised if Tiernan puts it back together and those 2 things alone fix all the problems. Also, I needed a running car to get back and forth to work, which is more important than owning a DSM. I have to keep myself supported, and the DSM was dragging me down at the time.
