Notice the factory mechanical fuel pump... It works pretty good too. I burned up 2 Mr Gasket pumps already....

This is only cool to about 1% of the Honda population too. Not trying to be a hater or anything.

Getaway is just a SOHC hater. kekeke....
Given best conditions, how many HP does it take to make a gutted NA sohc carbed 1800lb honda run a decent time?
talntid
01-25-2007, 01:54 PM
define decent time? what's the gear ratio? lets figure this out mathmatically
KryptoSol
01-25-2007, 02:33 PM
assuming hes using a stock si tranny the gear ratios are as follows.
1st: 3.250
2nd: 1.909
3rd: 1.250
4th: 0.909
5th: 0.702
FD: 4.250
Well i guess anything in the low 13s and 12s is what i consider decent for a NA SOHC.
EDIT: according to http://www.speedworldmotorplex.com/calc.htm, 1800lbs @ 215 fly wheel hp to run 12.5. The calc is for RWD but i think we all get the point.
I wonder what Bisi's race weight and HP of his car is???

All's it takes is a loud exhaust and CAI, buddy... :) Thats why most racers use honda.
Looks good Don, when are we gonna get some updates? This motor in the pic has got the high comp right?

SOHC is fine as long as it's boosted, even then a lot of them are slooooow. I like your D and a few others here and there. All motor D's are pointless, I've never seen one make more than 170 whp.
I still think this car will hit low 14's or high 13's, on DOT tires.

C'mon Chris, couldn't you sense the sacasim?? :)
By the way, when are you gonna build a Honda that will rival the "urban legend." kekeke...
Well, i'm no all motor guru, or motor guru of any type period, but my little understanding of gas engines are that its gonna need a butt load of compression, which requires a butt load of race gas, a butt load of the time. Could that be why there are no "fast" NA street hondas?
If i where to build an NA D series, i would go ITBS, big cams, and 13:1+ compression.

B motors are too complicated for me, one too many cams. I havn't got that advanced yet, i might make the move one day though...

haha, cars with less than 2 cams confuse the hell out of me. I mean think about how much simpler it makes it, one for intake, one for exhaust instead of trying to get one that does everything figured out.

I got this 1.5 with a single 12" sub, seats, me, and 14" dot radials to go low 14's with just bolt-ons (HKS intake, DC header, Full 2.25" exhaust, Running 93 octane gas with timing advanced). Two driving schools didnt hurt either as i was cutting 2.0 60ft times launching at 6500rpm. Front tire pressure was at 19psi.

i'm very skeptical, time slip?
mods put you at ~100-110 whp
EDIT: Didn't notice that you have a vtec head on it, is it a jdm d15b or a mini-me...that changes a few things but still low 14's NA would be very difficult

My brother had a red EF hatch with a stock y8 motor in it that ran 14.8s. So i think mid to low 14s might be very possible with slicks or DRs. Who knows... some motors are just freak motors.
a1320honda

Ya, i dont have timeslips from last year. Just ask just about anyone who was into hondas about 2 years ago and most remember that car. It was vtec. A jdm d15b vtec. The car weighed 1970lbs with me in it. no bumper supports, no rear interior, sorry i forgot i took the sub out when i ran on a saturday for times. Look at my old posts on honda-tech. I was all about putting that in the 13's all motor, just lost interest in the single cam. And the d15b vtecs were underated at 128hp (Made almost 135 on an engine dyno). The cam in those is almost the identical grind for the comp 35922 cam i think it is. If you have a z6 or y8, the d15b vtec cam is an excellent upgrade. By the numbers that Rory and i estimated at Idaho Speed Center, that car was making roughly 132-135 to the ground. In a 2000lb car, thats easily mid 14's. power to weight ratio is everything. That car ate gsr's with bolt ons every race. Reid might remember this car, i ran him with his turbo white hatch and he couldnt believe that he only beat me by like 2 cars. I always got accused of squeezin on it. and i always carried a hundred dollar bill around with me and when somone would accuse me of that, id throw it on the hood and say match what i got, if you find a bottle the $100 is your, if not, its mine. No one ever stepped up. I assure your, that car ran deep in the 14's. Ripleys believe it or not, lol.

I believe you ran 14's with a 2.0 60'. Shit man I give you props for running the same time as most turbo D's LOL. JDM D15 FTW

you didnt say anything about it weighing 1970 with you in it, thats quite a gutted car.
also d15b cam is the same thing as a cam found in the d16z6, it was a rumor that it is "more agressive" but it is a false rumor
http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1248924&postid=15643787
d16z6's come with different cams, including ones with more lift than the one found in the d15b.
d15b has higher static compression ratio which probably accounts for the higher crank horsepower number.
The best thing about the d15b isn't its cam, its the crank :)

I went through this with my dsm and dsmtuners.....DONT BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ IN AN OPEN FORUM! Im not gonna get in debate about this, but i talked to Will at exospeed about this a couple of years ago in great length, and the cams are different. Theres more lift and duration on the vtec lobes.
KryptoSol
01-31-2007, 12:15 PM
I used to run a comp/zex II cam, visually comparing and have tuned, there is no possible way that the d15b cam has the same profile. Its possible that its hotter than the z6 but no way is it like the comp/zex II cam like rumored.

its all good man, whether or not it is different the d15b cam isn't anything super spectacular
oh and the exospeed all motor d is a built d16a6...as far from the d15b vtec as you can get =)
last i heard it needed "tuning" but ran 13's
